Cool I got back into a cobalt. Lets figure this thing out!

This place is looking mighty empty these days, but im glad the forum still exists. I got into a 2009 LNF for a steal. It came with a few issues that i think i figured out, but I want to see if anyone has any input to throw my way.

When i first got the car, it kept throwing a p0101. I already know thats the famous "you have a boost leak" code. Tore off the bumper and low and behold this thing has the factory I/C on it somehow. It was cracked. Threw on a treadstone TR8 that i had laying around from my old cobalt and fixed a couple other boost leaks. Car drove well for about a day then it started sputtering and driving overall like doo doo. Would still throw a p0101 but now id sometimes get a p2187 (lean at idle). The car runs and drives fine for about 5 then hits me in the nuts with limp mode. Replaced the MAF, and also threw on a new tune to eliminate that as an issue. Now i only get p2187. I also bypassed the vacuum tank to eliminate that as a vacuum leak. Threw on a new EVAP purge solenoid for good measure.

Heres where it gets fun. None of that stuff remedied the problem. For some reason the car would max out the STFT despite my best efforts, then the LTFT would soon follow. Idles like crap, etc. If you disconnect the MAF, it idles good. After doing a bit more reading, i disconnected the EVAP connector to disable LTFT and the car runs so much better. It still stutters on idle a little but it drives perfectly fine and boosts fine. I noticed she has a problem flipping back and fourth from open loop to closed loop though. Weird. In open loop the STFT are stable near 0. I think we have a bad 02 sensor on our hands boys. Its not throwing a code for it but from time to time the Lambda and STFT are just frozen and stuck at 29.7 respectively.

Its been fun going through all this, but for 3600 bucks that i paid for this car i cant complain.

Oh yeah, i have an airbag light on, the TCS is disabled, and the ABS light is on (probably from the new module i installed not being programmed with the VIN

I may be around here from time to time still. I plan on using this car as a guinie pig to learn how to tune myself. If anyone needs any help with their stuff feel free to hmu.

Yes its dead here
$3600 you couldn't go wrong there
Bought my 09 cheep 8 years ago had the same problem with the crappy OEM intercooler
You are likely right the O2s get lazy with age and the output freezing points that direction

Used to be such a lively place back in the day. 02 sensor was the culprit. gotta reprogram the abs module now and fix the airbag light and shes mint.

Congrats on getting another Cobalt. Would you mind posting a pic? I watch the market regularly to see what's out there and I wonder if you picked up one that I had seen.

Ill have to find another image hosting site or something. Ill post one eventually. It looks like a bone stock black 2009 though. Was for sale in Maryland on FB marketplace and listed for like 4300. I talked the guy down a bit because the car had more issues than I anticipated but overall it was a good buy. The guy didnt seem to know much about these cars, but whoever owned it before him definitely did. It has what looks like Bilstein B8 or B6 struts, not too much rust, a tune, and ive noticed some small repairs here and there that were done correctly such as a new MAF pigtail. Everything aside from a tune and a ZZP 3.25" CAI appear to be completely stock, even the DP and catback. Ive only ever had a 2010 (miss that car) and ive never driven a balt without LSD but man, these cars really need it. Its still fast and handles really good but i can tell the difference easily.
