intermittent turbo flutter
i have noticed before that once in awhile that i will have alittle turbo flutter when first taking off in my car. i just installed a k&n intake and now its alittle more noticeable and i also notice now that the times it flutters i cant hear the diverter valve. its a stock diverter valve not the forge one. the time the diverter valve works its not fluttering. any insight greatly appriciated. btw its a stock k04 on my 2010 ss

If it's lower speed part throttle, it's normal. It doesn't function that well at light throttle. Putting a forge one on won't change that. I'm guessing it's when it's cold and you are lightly accelerating? If so it's normal.
The k&n will allow you to hear the turbo and it's function more, that's why it's more noticeable. If it's loud, as in compressor surge, that's not normal. |
i mean its pretty noticeable but its only at part throttle like you said. i checked the turbo when the intake off and there was no play at all on the turbo so its probly just the normal flutter like you said. dosnt do it when im racing it or anything. just making sure as its my first turbo car and i want to keep everything tip top. thanks for your input!

Mine sounds like a turkey gobbling when I let off the gas under boost since I've put the K&N on.

Mine only does that on light throttle, and it's barely noticeable. It did sound like that a couple of times a few years ago, and I traced it to my poor install of the lower 3 bar map. Oring had slight tear and was causing it to flutter. Might check it, it happened after about 1.5 years after I installed them. Only 1 bolt holding that in, and it started to get tilted from working it's way out.
