I'm not sure how readable this is. I will post mileage and oil type after i get feedback. Let me know if anything looks abnormal.

Have you posted your results on www.bobistheoilguy.com ? If not I would post them over there and you will get a lot of great feed back from their forum members.

That site is great "bobistheoilguy.com", got great info on different oils to use..

I actually registered over there. Just waiting on Approval.

As for the test I used Amsoil 5W30. Oil had 8k miles on it. I changed the filter twice during that 8k miles.

As for the analysis, I believe all numbers are within spec or well below them. Which is great news. I am trying to narrow down the Viscosity, but I believe it finished somewhere in the region of a high SAE 20 and low SAE 30

Iron might be a little high

So really the only thing i was worried about was viscosity and it looks like I changed it at the right time. My mileage has went up.

I am very happy with the results and I am starting to Amsoil might be worth it.

I thought I read some where, Amsoil was in the top ten for perforance based oils. I use royal purple top five, but my old professor thinks highly of it.. for its properties compared to natural to sync based oils..

Iron does look a tad high for an engine fully broken in.. I've seen #s around 5-30 in other OAs. The fuel content was 4%? That seems a bit high for sure. I know these DI engines can cause excess fuel to wash into to combustion chamber.

Check this OA from Bobs site:

This is Turbo car using Amsoil. The Iron was around 30. The Fuel should be UNDER 2% as shown on the chart. This OA shows LESS than .5%!

I was thinking about switching over to Amsoil next oil change, do you think it's worth the extra $$?

Not to inflame another oil war, but Royal Purple is actually not the greatest of oils. Probably better than some of the cheap ones out there, but definately not the best oil, and certanly not worth what they charge. Read up on it sometime at bobistheoilguy.com or just do a google search. The last report I read found Royal purple had the highest amount of wear in the testbed.

I wouldnt use anything else in my f250 diesel. 300,000k miles and still running strong.

Dart_SI 05-12-2011 12:27 PM

Here's mine from 45k miles. I'm due to get another one in a few thousand. Fuel was less than 0.5%.

FE looks a little high and FUEL looks definitely off at 4%...should be less than 1/2 that.
I'm using Pennzoil Ultra 5/30.

Prestige_Worldwide 05-12-2011 03:28 PM

Do you guys that use Amsoil switch the filter between changes at all?

umrdyldo 05-12-2011 03:49 PM

I'm not using amsoil anymore, but I do filter at 3k and oil at 6k

meldog21 05-12-2011 06:28 PM

OMG!! I figured I was the only person here that regularly sends in my oil for analysis. You mean there is more than one other person on this forum that actually gets scientific test data and relies on it to make informed decisions on what to do with their car, say it isn't so. I thought all Cobalt owners just went by what "some guy" said, its louder so it must be faster, or butt dyno stories. If things keep going like this the next thing to happen will be meaningful before and after dyno charts that show actual improvement or losses when certain products are used or compared.

There might be some hope for the members of this forum, but I doubt it. We'll have to wait and see. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best while I continue to wade through countless pages of pointless and useless garbage posts.

Thanks to any and all that provide quality information on the forum.
