Looking to install 4.45s

Hey guys, I'm looking swap the gears in my 09 SS for a set of 4.45s. Ive already figured out where to get them. I wanted to install them myself. My question is do I have to have someone do it for me or is it something I can do myself? I heard john powell wasn't doing any for the time being, and id like to save the $2300 lol. I'm fairly mechanically inclned. It sounds pretty straight forward to me but id love some input.

I would say have a look at the inside of a tranny and maybe a repair book and decide for urself. I'm pretty mechanically inclined as well but I wouldn't touch the inside of a tranny unless someone who had done it many many times was helping

Need some special J tools that are $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Good luck. Everyone goes to Powell for a reason.

The fact that you think a 3000gt trans is the same as a cobalt is enough to say your probably not skilled enough for the job.

Jus goin out on a limb here

Sweet, it would be a while off before I would try it. Just trying to get a base of operations.

Afaik, the 4.45 set is just the diff gear and the gear that meshes to it. The process of disassembling the f35 case is a little tricky. I know powell has made his own tools to complete the gear swap, but tools are available for buku bucks (around $1000 for the set I believe) as stated before.

If you do all that, you will also need crush sleeves for re-assembly. I would loctite 270 or 263 for diff gear bolts torqued to 15-20ftlbs +90*. I have heard it's a good idea to replace the diff gear bolts with new. For my f40 I'm using ARP bolts for the ring gear to diff. F40 design is less of a PITA to work on and from what I've seen.

Its hilarious how cheap the tools are for the f23 compared to the f35.
