MPX lightweight crank pulley

I've had this on my car for about 2000 miles and lately I've been hearing a lot of bad things about this upgrade. So i created this thread to see what everyone else feels about it?

MastaShaKe_88 Aug 21, 2011 07:06 PM

Well.... What have you heard?? I haven't heard anything negative about this piece in particular.. Gdubs is the only one that did a thorough review of it, an he said it was good.. As far as other underDrive or crank pullies.. Ive seen mixed reviews.. Never from the person but always " o well my cuzin said...." lol

How'd you like it tho??? Anything good performance wise? Any negatives???

gdubs Aug 21, 2011 07:11 PM

I still have it on my car. Sill doing wonderful and I have about 4k on the part. No leaks from the seal. And no problems with the engine

CTFinestTurbo Aug 21, 2011 07:16 PM

So far I like it. I can feel and see how much faster the car revs than before. I've heard it could strip out the crank timing gear. It could also blow out the crank seal and hurt the crankshaft. Idk how much of this is true but it makes me nervous

Read this if you have a minute

ATI - The Dangers of Power Pulleys & Understanding the Harmonic Damper

Not to say that you should or shouldn't run one, that's your call but it is a good read.

i got so lost in that article about halfway thru... skipped toward the end and it seems like it was all an effort to get you to buy a BMW engine from em?

Good info T-man..

CTFinestTurbo Aug 21, 2011 09:00 PM

Reading it makes me want to Just take the pulley off and throw it in the trash

Powell Race Parts Aug 21, 2011 09:02 PM

GM tested lightweight non harmonic dampers. disaster. somewhere I have a break down of the oem damper. its a good piece.

eventually not running it , will bite u in the back side. sad to say.

smart move

gdubs Aug 21, 2011 09:54 PM

I'm not. I'll prove all of you wrong. This has been debated time and time again

It has been debated and there are a large majority of high performance engine builders and master technicians that refuse to use these types of crank pulleys. Just as you trust in Vince because of his "thousands of tunes over many types of vehicles", I trust in these people who build $50,000+ motors, that say not to utilize these.

Good luck man, I wish you the best.

And I definitely value a lot of what Mr. Powell says

Every mod that I have ever done I have consulted my resources which include Delphi and General Motors engineers. I have been told by all of them that this single light weight pulley will do no harm to the engine or throw off the balance.

Racerdad Aug 22, 2011 02:05 PM

I'm not going to take a side here, but a lightweight flywheel is going to reduce a lot more rotating mass than a pulley would. Other automakers have problems with those - much more so than a lightweight crank pulley. Another issue in play is the max rpms experienced.

If I raised my redline considerably, I think I'd be nervous about doing either of these, but the pulley would still be less of a concern. If you want max durability, probably the answer is "don't do either one", though.

MastaShaKe_88 Aug 22, 2011 10:10 PM

but people get lightweight flywheels all the time..

DillySS Aug 24, 2011 03:10 PM

Use the A/C? I don't so dampening is not really an issue.

Vibrations? Well, I don't have Polyurathane. I have rubber so not really an issue with the crack there.

Little peice of rubber bewteeen two peices of metal allows for really nothing.

CTFinestTurbo Aug 24, 2011 04:07 PM

I took mine off yesterday and if someone wants to buy it from me let me know

MastaShaKe_88 Aug 24, 2011 04:10 PM

meh, how much?

huh? Its to dampen engine firing pulses.

CTFinestTurbo Aug 24, 2011 04:15 PM

100 i guess
