i was wondering if muffler deletes are bad? iv herd its bad on cars that arent turbo but i also herd that cars with turbos have enough back pressure that it does hurt it..thoughts?

very generally speaking.. back pressure for an N/A engine is needed. For a forced induction, especially turbos, the more open flow and less back pressure the better..

again, that's a very general statement but holds true for most setups

So a muffler delete will not hurt your performance, however nor will it help. This is purely a sound mod for our cars.

On "cat warm up" in the morning it sounds like any old v-8 w/o exhaust at all, that bad

I think there may be one vid on youtube I'll try and find it

so a catless dp and then the stock exhaust piping with a muffler delete would not be harmful to the engine in any way? just really loud...correct?

the gmpp guys said it sounds bad ass with straight pipe, not sure if that was a stock down pipe or not...Kind of thinking it was.

you have an aftermarket tune, it better not throw a code.

you are tuned as well.

People not everyone is installing a downpipe with an aftermarket tune. If someone runs a stock or gmstage 1 tune there is a chance of throwing a catless error code or a high flow cat.

An aftermarket tune does NOT guarantee that you will not throw a cel. Depending on the dp design, is directly relevant to how long your O2 sensor will last. Some dp's do not use a defouler which puts sensor directly into the exhaust path of what is now a much hotter and dirtier path to your second O2 without 2 cats in the way (assuming we are talking catless). There have definitely been tuned guys chewing through front O2 sensors even with the stock dp due to the higher egts. Even companies that do have defoulers in place will still go through sensors quicker.

Higher boost = much higher WOT egts

okay your front o2 sensor has nothing to do with your downpipe since it is located in the o2 housing right off of the turbo. second of all you can just turn off the cat codes and set them to no error reported. all the second o2 sensor does is pretty much check if the cat is still there. turn off the code and don't even worry about it

Bit of a thread jack here, but since we're on the topics of exhausts.. what do y'all think of resonator deletes on a catback exhaust? Friend of mine might be selling me his gmpp touring with res delete..

Are you SC I assume? I like to know exactly what a LNF sounds like with catless 3" DP straight back...

lol.. I forgot everyone on here looking for little holes in stories to jump through at any given chance. I'll be sure to be more absolute and specific for you next time.. I am only trying to point out that it is very possible for a cel.

Yes the front o2 sensor is in the turndown right off of the turbo. The relevance to the front o2 sensor was to point out the fact that with an aftermarket tune your chances are much higher of blowing through front and rear o2 sensors (rear when catless). The front o2 takes the brunt of the extreme egt's and the rear is no longer guarded by an o2 sensor (if kept directly in the exhaust downstream with no defouler). The whole point of any of this is to show that just because you are running a catless downpipe with an aftermarket tune does not guarantee that you will not throw a cel. Will you definitely throw a code? No of course not... Is it more likely that you will? Absolutely.

no... as stated earlier, it's nothing more than a sound mod on these cars.

The short answer? NO! The expanded answer? It will sound like ****, unless you like pure NOISE and it will NOT IMPROVE performance one bit. Your biggest bang for your buck in the area of perormance is a 3" down pipe with a HIGH PERFORMANCE cat. It will also give you a beautiful, performance sound that is only heard when you get on the throttle. All other times it's mellow and won't get you into trouble with the cops. If your aftermarket down pipe is engineered right, meaning the O2 sensor is positioned in the correct place and at the proper angle, you won't cause any cells. Mines been on for over a year and I have the GM Turbo uprade plus a Trifecta tune and haven't had a problem yet. In fact I added another sensor for a wideband. No problems there either. But if you like plain old noise go for the muffler delete. It won't hurt anything.

Hope I didn't give you too much info.
