Need help with some codes
So I had some issues with my new "upgraded" fuel pump (AEM 320lph E85 pump from ZZP).
Car kept randomly dying at idle or low rpms. Just had the stock fuel pump put back in. On the drive home today (~45 miles) there was no stalling but I have no boost and a bunch of codes: P0010 "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1) P0013 "B" Camshaft Position - Actuator Circuit (Bank 1) P0033 Turbo Charger Bypass Valve Control Circuit P0034 Turbo Charger Bypass Valve Control Circuit Low P0243 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A Malfunction P0245 Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid A Low P0338 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit High Input Not sure if any of these have anything to do with the fuel issues or not; These showed up on last drive on the AEM pump as well, along with some rail pressure and misfire ones. The only one I'm not worried about is the CPS sensor code; its been there ever since my engine rebuild in 2013. Replaced the pigtail and the sensor twice, and called it good :) I haven't checked fuses yet, should probably do that next. Before I start throwing money at replacing sensors and solenoids, does anyone have a clue on where to start? |
My buddy had an 09 that would throw only a thermostat code for like two months, so one day he got around to replacing the thermostat, and on the drive home the CEL comes on again - for two different/new codes - P0010 and P0013. Turns out his timing chain and cam gears were shot throwing the codes, there was tons of slop in the old chain. Now I have no idea why they would only appear after replacing the thermostat, but since you did something seemingly unrelated and now get these codes, I figured I would share. And I would also assume your no boost is a result of the turbo related codes, but I would guess you already knew that.

Thanks!
My timing should be good though; just had a completely built head put in less than 1000 miles ago. Did some screaming dyno runs at 7800 rpms without issue so... I'm just hoping there is only one issue and the other codes are domino effects because of it :) |
Adrian- can you log the car on hpt and see if some of this reads correctly? Especially like the pcm knowing about the cams and turbo?
|
my guess you have a harness issue.
All those code are circuit problems, you have a backed out connector or melted a harness or something along those lines. |
Trace the harness. Most of those are circuitry codes and run within the same 2 harness sections.
You have no boost because the car is in limp mode. Do a check of fuses and a physical wiring check. Next get a scanner on it and start checking voltage regulations/variances all all of those codes and look at the actual data. My guess is a part of the harness is shot or a part of the ecu prom is shot. The aem fuel pump possibly was not wored properly and was captivating or you just got a shit pump |
Thanks for the input guys. I'll look at the fuses and wiring harness tonight and will report back.
Omiotek I'm pretty sure the pump was wired correctly. It was installed by a professional shop that has built numerous high HP LS setups. They are arguably the go-to Corvette performance outfit in the state :) |
Then chances are you got a bad pump. Ive had a few come from aem that were bad out of the box

Heck, I also did a half mile race event trapping 139.7 on a 102 degree day without fail, although the car did stall later that day while idling... |
oh happy day!

Yay. Glad you found it!
Over the winter you may want to trace that harness back and make sure you don't have a bare wire somewhere that intermittently grounds, causing the fuse to blow. |
I did find some superficial wire damage and I think I know what caused it. When I broke down the last time, I found my coil cover had come completely loose and had been sliding around under the hood. This is an aluminum piece with fairly sharp edges. The insulation on the far right coil was damaged as well as that on the two cam sensors/solenoids/whatevertheyare on the same side. I'll be sure to re-insulate everything very well.

Also, does anyone know what the fuse labeled AIR SOL powers? (two fuses down from the one I marked above)
It is just flopping around as if the contacts that are supposed to hold it were pushed down too far...Could this be causing my CPS code I'm wondering... |
|
|
AIR SOL = Air Solenoid
I got that far, but I have no idea what an air solenoid is or what it does... If it is "air" as in air conditioning, then I'm golden since I don't have any :) But something tells me that's not it... |
I'm tempted to go pull mine and see what happens
|
Yeah that im not to sure
|
My guess is that AIR refers to the SAI some cobalts had: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-2l...06-l61s-38488/
It's labeled the same for the relay, but I'm not sure about the fuse. My inclination is that it's also the fan 2 fuse (like the relay) and they didn't mark the fuse on that sheet like they did for the relay. |

My inclination is that it's also the fan 2 fuse (like the relay) and they didn't mark the fuse on that sheet like they did for the relay. Posters in the FB Cobalt road racing group also suggested it is a Cali-only secondary air injection system for emissions purposes. I'm kinda hoping however that it is the secondary fan as that would explain all the overheating issues I've been having. I'll have to take a closer look at everything this weekend. I'll take the fuse box apart so see what's underneath this fuse slot and I'll test out my fan operation. |
