Nitrous Setup Help.

Hey, guys. So I have a 2009 SS/TC that I just recently put a NOS setup on. Well, currently, it's set on a WOT switch only so I rarely use it. (Stock turbo and internals and I don't wanna spool too fast and tear something up.). My intentions for installing nitrous are to have it setup for turbo lag elimination only. Does anyone have a good setup for this? In my fantasy build, I'd like to have a three system requirement for my nitrous to spray. WOT, window(2400ish-5200ish) and a MAF window switch.(If that even exists). I'd like the nitrous to spray when my rotations get to around 2400(or whatever is decided to be "safe") and to cut off when i'm around 12 psi boost. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks in advance!

What tune are you on? Using spray to spool the k04 is 100% unnecessary and shouldn'tbe done you should only use it up top after 4.5k. Using it at 2500 is bad on the engine and will blow the trans

Get a good tune or and big turbo

Go read my nitrous install threads

tomj77 09-17-2015 07:59 PM

let me get this straight. You want to use nitrous to spool the k04, which spools basically instantly with almost no lag at all? id understand this if u had like a 70+mm single scroll turbo but not the baby k04. money should have been saved and put toward a zfr. even that spools insanely quick.

dude u got me shaking my head. ur nitrous would literally not spray at all if it were to cut off at 12 lbs of boost. do u not watch ur boost gauge when u step on it, 12 lbs of boost is instant. there is no lag

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I'm in the early stages of building this car. I only mentioned having the stock turbo to explain why I'm hesitant of spraying nitrous. I'm planning on performing a turbo swap as soon as I find one I like. (I've almost decided on one of the bullseye turbos but still not sure what size.). Just finished new charge pipes and am getting ready for new injectors, head, and cam before the turbo. Then, I'll be in a position to setup the nitrous. Me and some of the guys were talking about how to wire it in and I wanted the opinion of you guys.

exactly how much power are u shooting for?

Shooting for 400whp

ECaulk 09-17-2015 10:40 PM

Just get a ZFR and you'll hit 400 no need for spray to help with lag. Cost you 2200ish plus the tune

Wow, that's awesome. So just add the ZFR after the injectors, head, and cam? Or will the stock internals hold up?

Snail_SS 09-17-2015 10:59 PM

Stock will hold but if you add that it's more gains for you

I made 481 e25 100% stock engine 7163

Snail_SS 09-18-2015 08:20 AM

Yup that's it way more than 400

tomj77 09-18-2015 01:54 PM

Yup agreed. Sell the nitrous , use it toward the bigger zfr, u don't really need the other stuff to make the 400whp , rather use the money for a tranny lol. I make about 400 on the smaller zfr , stock engine at 28 psi. U can also run some meth injection for more gains

TylerJHowell 09-18-2015 02:10 PM

Alright. So NOS=Bad mod. Lesson learned. So, two questions then. Do I need to upgrade valve springs to the ZZP 82# to get the most out of the new turbo or should the stock ones do okay?

Second. If I want to sell my NOS setup(sad face), what should I ask for it? It's already installed so it's used but it's fairly new. Craigslist or what?

Snail_SS 09-18-2015 02:35 PM

Stock valve springs will hold you don't need to change anything. Like Kmo43 said he has a stock engine and made 481. The zfr is a bolt on turbo. You could use the valve springs and cams to maybe Rev higher to my understanding. Just don't know what valve springs would be best. What you need to worry about is the tune to save the transmission a good boost ramp will solve that problem

tomj77 09-18-2015 04:02 PM

Yes valve springs should be upgraded if u want to raise ur rev limit, I believe anything past 7k should probably have upgraded springs. And yes u will need to boost ramp the zfr, which means adding lag, it spools to quick for the tranny to be able to withstand the torque for to long. These cars with that turbo make a lot of power very quickly, read up on other peoples mods and dyno results, check out dyno forum , should give u a good idea of what mods will get u what power levels. U can get 320whp and close to 499wtq with just a tune and downpipe on these cars.

I'd buy the turbo first then cams and spring afterwards.

What tune are you on?

ItalianJoe1 09-18-2015 08:13 PM

Easy way to do what you want is to wire in a hobbs switch to kill the kit after a certain PSI, for spooling a turbo. But as has been covered, not necessary unless the turbo is BIG. A very small shot will help with intercooling and gain lots of power but to spool up the turbo quicker it's almost pointless on a stock or slightly upgraded turbo.

Running on a custom tune setup by the previous owner. I plan on getting a PCM from ZZP soon along with the turbo. Quoted price was 184.99 if I sent in my current PCM first. Not bad IMO.

tomj77 09-19-2015 12:54 PM

Don't get zzp pcm, buy hptuners and get a remote tune from someone on here, like km043 or terminator2
You don't wanna run a can tune on ur car, that's what the zzp pcm will be

tomj77 09-19-2015 12:58 PM

Run all ur buying desicions by us, we will help u get the best setup for u car, since it seems ur not researching anything about modding it. These cars have pretty much been tweaked in every way to get best performance from them, so a lot of the senior guys on here know what will work best.

Also I think it's important to make sure that everyone knows that you can make big power on the smaller zfr if you have access to e85. I feel like everyone assumes it can only make 400hp. Granted using the 7163 is easier to get to the 475 area it still can be done with the 6758. Just my .02

I disagree. The 7163 doesn't need to be ramped so buying it and having the extra headroom even if you don't use it you still have it for later on if you choose

Disagreeing with what? That you can make big power on the 67? I agree the 7163 is better but all I was saying is that you can make big power on it, it's not just a 400whp turbo.
