25 bucks. 35 if you want them to tell you how long you can take your oil. I dont really care about that, just wanted to see if the motor was having blowby

68nova200 10-16-2012 10:33 PM

Not bad. I'm not worried about much it would be nice to see how my oil holds up after 6k or so...

Speed_Thrills 10-16-2012 10:59 PM

This is awesome.. I may have it done this winter just so I know what's going on in there.. Thanks for the info!

user 72239 10-17-2012 03:28 PM

No problem! i think i might do one ever 6-8 months.

LS6Rally 10-17-2012 05:22 PM

hmm cool info. i may have to do this. i usually go about 8K between changes, and i have 167K miles. (2.4) would like to see where its at!

wayfarer 10-17-2012 05:29 PM

I use Blackstone too-- very easy to do. Email them they'll send you a sample kit for free, you pay (put a check in the sample container) when you do the sample. If you do a prepaid bulk deal it's less $. You can also buy an 'extractor" from them to take the sample through the dipstick tube. (I made my own)

LS6Rally 10-17-2012 05:37 PM

^ just did it.

OP sent you a PM

I change my oil once per year, whether it needs it or not. :)

themacguy 10-17-2012 09:56 PM

That's what my OLM and owner's manual says.

For us Canuks: Wearcheck = www.wearcheck.com
35 CDN dollars plus tax. Same thing. Includes trend monitoring online.
They said SOAP every 2nd oil change. Results in 48 hours.

C_A_D88 10-17-2012 10:13 PM

U change your oil.... Once... A year?

themacguy 10-17-2012 10:31 PM

Maybe twice. OLM usually at 50%.

You must not drive very much. lol. I change mine about 3 times a year. usually when my OLM gets to 30%

C_A_D88 10-18-2012 08:57 AM

Fuck I change mine like every 2 months tops

well as you see here, even at 6k miles they said it looks good. I could probably go to 10k and be fine. I dont know how much you drive but you are just wasting money imo.

padlock 10-18-2012 09:14 AM

^this

I change mine every 5k with Mobil 1 5w30 and I'm guessing I could run more if I wanted but I'd rather not given how I drive it (esp during racing season)... this coming from a son whose father calls me crazy and religiously changes his conventional every 3k or thinks it will blow up

I ran Mobil 1 Extended Performance in my LT and changed it every 10k (even though the oil was rated to 15k). I felt/heard/saw no difference in the motor, I dont trust the filter for longer than that is all

This go around I bought the High Mileage stuff as I was told its better than the regular 5w30. I think ill just change my oil filter at 6k and then run it to 12k and see how the oil looks

Wangspeed 10-18-2012 12:04 PM

It's a lot easier to get a sample if you use a Fumoto oil drain valve. Plus it makes oil changes less messy.

I change my oil about every 8K miles. when the OLM gets down to 20%.i run 5W30 Mobil 1 EP. The OLM for my SS/NA was calibrated for conventional, and i have noticed no issues with the engine. 167K and still going strong. i wouldnt change it too often, just a waste of money IMO

prevsrt4owner 10-18-2012 04:05 PM

Good deal.

vahdyx 10-18-2012 05:04 PM

I just added cilantro to my salad and it's the shit.

Oh and used to change my oil ever 3 months, but reading that post about changing it too much is worse I decided to do every 50% OLM and I literally drive 100-500 miles a month so it'll be awhile. For example, my car hasn't be turned on in 3 days. It'll be turned on tomorrow and likely the weekend but that's it.

I plan on doing this soon too. I'm curious.

huckernage 10-18-2012 05:11 PM

when you drop your oil. just try to smell it, you ll find out a slight aroma of fuel

i gues it is normal. my ion SC smell like my tC.

fuel ll hurt the property of the oil. 5k oil changed
