P0301 fireballs and lots of smoke

So just a little while ago I had a superbly massive fireball out of my exhaust on hard acceleration followed by a pop and a p0301 (misfire) code limp the car just a little back to the house and there's an awesome amount of oil coming from my exhaust.
I am full bolt ons and term tuned via Brian the lion on a stock turbo

No coolant in exhaust
Coolant levels fine
Nothing out of place in the engine bay

Turbo is done ? Non lnf familiar mechanic says it may be a hole in piston 1 any advice? Thanks!

Take the intake off and check for shaft play. Also a better definition than an awesome amount (are we talking quarts coming out).

You could also take a look at Cyl1's plug and then perform a compression or leak down (leak downs are better but a compression test will show you if there is a hole in Cyl1).

Enough smoke you couldn't see behind me for the whole half mile I limped back, maybe a 1/2 quart nothing detrimental. Will check the shaft and pull the plug this pm

And now I'm getting a cam position sensor and misfires in 1, 2, 3 checking the codes this morning

Good chance its the turbo then. But def check compression also

Will do asap, thanks

Very minimal shaft play in 1 direction only. Compression test to come tomorrow

Oil in each cylinder, 165 across the board except cylinder 4 which is reading 0, battery died and starter won't turn over so I assume that's the issue. Valve seals maybe ?

Check your intercooler for excess oil , and pull your intake mani to see if the pcv valve is stuck open also

I'll pull the intake tomorrow, if the pcv is stuckopen they're will be an obscene amount of oil or caking or what ? Valves are moving on startup but somehow still no reading for #4

Missed the number 4 at 0. Good chance the cylinder is done

Same shit happened to me. You'll be better off buying a new engine from ZZP.

Fucking cyl 4. Happened to my brother, me, you, and everyone else! Dammit GM! Good reason to get new parts though :p

bflee Aug 30, 2015 09:07 PM

Didn't get the intake off but 4 still won't read so I guess I blew apart something, will bore scope it in the next few days and post my findings

bflee Sep 19, 2015 07:16 PM

6-8oz of oil poured out of the intake manifold when I pulled it, valves all moving no oil in fmic or any of the charge piping. Could it be the pcv system ?

ShaunDRZ Sep 20, 2015 12:15 AM

So you didn't blow cylinder 4?

bflee Sep 20, 2015 12:57 PM

Head is coming off today, just is fishy cause it won't even move the needle. Need to leak it down I guess

If it consistently doesn't provide ANY compression, then I can only imagine that it is blown really badly.

Or a valve is missing, which would be pretty tough on the piston
