2nd guessing my new LNF

Guys please help me keep my SS. I need some kind words here.

I know I should have done my research however Im now regretting the purchase of my LNF SS due to the DI fuel system.

I just sort of rushed myself into buying the Cobalt because I really wanted one.

I love this car no doubt. Its everything I ever wanted in a Turbo Chevy 4 cylinder. AWD would have been a plus though

Heck im still in the process of running a similar setup with my turbo Z24. (minus the ecotec brand and DI LOL)

However reading all the horror stories of gunk buildup due to DI systems has me worried.

I heard seafoam doesn’t help, ZZP’s 5th injector only sprays at WOT so not much help there either. Also some company is coming up with a solution which will integrate both DI and port fuel systems like Toyota? However I have yet to hear confirmation. Any word there?

Guess Im just venting cause this is what Ive been thinking about everyday now and I need some assurance. I even cut down on driving the SS (which is stupid cause whats the point on having the car if you need to refrain yourself from driving it to decrease gunk buildup!!!!!!!!!)

Im looking to trade it in for a new body style Malibu or Cruze (not sure if the Cruze is DI if so scratch that). Plus I doubt my girl will ever learn to drive stick so having another automatic car will be good for her.

It's a valid concern. It's covered under the drivetrain warranty, but getting warranty work done is always a pain. If you want to put a lot of miles on your car, then a turbo car probably wasn't a good idea, anyway. Go get something naturally-aspirated.

seriously, you are worried about the gunk? haha.

For 1, all you need to do is buy a new head and swap it every 1-2 years depending on driving style. Then you can just clean the old one using a toothbrush and take your time. then swap it back on when the current one gets dirty.

or you can take a huge loss in trade in and buy a slow Malibu/Cruze.

guess its your choice.

1. 99% of us aren't swapping heads for cheap. Would love to learn how but no way.

2. Not all of us bought our car at a loss.

For the 1% of Cobalt owners who are willing to go through that process just to keep a Cobalt on the road, I commend thee.

Does anyone have any recommendations for looking at the valves without pulling the IM?

snake light through some point of entry?

No way in hell I'm pulling my IM until there's an issue.

Seafoam works, it gets foamed every oil change. There is a post with pics of valves from guy who foams every oil change and they look great!

You can probably snake a bore-scope in through the brake booster port.

I dont really know anything about the LNF's, but yes the LSJ's are hella reliable. Ive driven mine cross country twice now and all ive had to do was fix allignment and replace a hub assembly (both caused by running over a deer lol) but as far as motor reliability, i havent had a single problem

Yep. Documented proof that it works and Seafoam sells kits just for doing this also.

Wanna keep gunk buildup to a minimum? Dont take short trips as in let the car reach full oil temp. Dont lug the engine. I dont even use 5th unless on the highway. And u got boost, use it! Open that thing up on a regular basis(dont mean beat on it)

LOL! I know I sound like a chick. Im new to Cobalts so please explain.

What exactly does a spare gasket kit help with? Once you pull the IM the gasket is now good and will need to be replaced?

I bought this car as a daily dependable driver so Im hoping it doesn’t blow. More power will be nice…..24psi is boring to me now ….LOL

I actually wish I did go with an LSJ and turbo swap it.

I want a Malibu/Cruze not for speed…that’s what my Turbo Cavalier will satisfy

Im good with cars so pulling the head every 1-2 years sounds okay I guess. Ive heard there are some TTY bolts that need to be replaced. Any how-to on puling the head?

I did see the seafoam thread one guy posted. Valves do look “okay”. Im still going to use seafoam during my oil changes. Will stainless steal valves help big with our curse?

This thread is full of pointless worry. Why are you not driving the car? There are plenty of LNFs out there with 60k+ miles on them that haven't ever seen a seafoam treatment once and they are running just fine. If you want to cut down on the carbon build up, get a catch can and don't lug the engine under 2k rpm. If worse comes to worse, you can always pull the head off and walnut blast it or buy a new head. No reason to take a large hit on an awesome car like this by getting rid of it instantly.

Btw, the new body style malibu and cruze are both running only DI engines I believe.

So no lugging under 2K is bad....meaning stay up in the RPM's?

Staying in boost helps reduce the gunk?

Catch can! Yes I forgot to ask about that. Anyone done confirmation with pics that it really does help?
And this whole thread isnt pointless. Its helping me keep decided if its worth keeping the SS

If you want to trade in your SS for a better car- that's fine. Trade in for a Malibu/Cruze? what.the. might as well snip off your ***** and trade in your man card.
