Replacing turbo questions.
Replacing turbo questions.
I have some shaft play on my stock turbo with 128xxx miles on it and I'm upgrading to a z54 and have a couple of questions. Are the banjo washer for the Coolant and oil lines reusable and how many of each are there? Also once everything is back together should I pull the coils and turn the motor over to prime the turbo with oil prior to starting?
The banjo gaskets are not technically reusable. I'd replace them since you're there, should be 5 in total, 3 coolant (2 on coolant feed, 1 on turbo coolant drain) and 2 oil (1 on the block, 1 on turbo). I would get a oil drain gasket also, and the O2 elbow gasket both sides (same gasket just need 2).
Pull the fuel pump fuse and hold the throttle to the floor to prime the turbo (holding the throttle to the floor should tell the ecu not to fire or inject fuel, but to be sure pull the fuel pump fuse). Additionally I'd put some oil in the turbo before the oil feed is connected to aid in lubrication during priming.
