RPD Accuracy...

Ok so I have been searching around but couldn't find and answer. How accurate are these things as far as boost and IAT.

I did read that IAT is before the charged air cooler... What the f* is that about? It shouldn't surprise me that GM did that though.

The reason why I ask is that I have a few extra ISSPRO gauges from my diesel. A boost, IAT and a pyrometer. I just wanted to see who is installing extra readouts and what you guys are all doing to monitor these beastly little LNFs.

ya u want iat2, thats after the intercooler. and the rpd is probaby as accurate as the analog boost gauge some of them have, it do believe the ecu uses map sensor and maf or whatever to calculate boost. i got an aftermarket boost gauge and it reads 1 psi more then the stock one did, but it also doesnt do calculation, it gets pressure reading straight out of the manifold. so ya my 22psi tune actually reads 23psi on my aftermarket gauge.

as for extra readouts, i got myself the defi boost gauge, water temp, and oil pressure gauge on the apiller, and got a dashdaq for every other sensor ur car has. its set up to monitor iat2, map,maf,a/f ratio, fuel rail pressure, exhaust temp, oil temp, knock, and misfire.

but it does so much more.

The RPD probably gets boost by taking the MAP sensor reading minus the Barometric Pressure reading. It is a calculated value though, and the sensors/gauges could read a bit differently than each other due to calibration/accuracy issues (x2 because it uses two sensors to do it too).

Yeah, the air temp on the RPD is IAT1 (MAF sensor reading, before the turbo). IAT2 (post intercooler air temp) can be read on the GMLAN, but you'll need a gauge that can read it, like an Interceptor, Dashdaq, etc. What's interesting is that IAT1 and IAT2 parameters are flip-flopped when using the Dashdaq, so that makes me wonder if the RPD was supposed to read IAT2 and somebody flubbed up the programming and flip-flopped the readings on accident.

How much of a difference is the IAT1 vs. IAT2 on these cars. I'm totally stock for right now. If I was going to put guages on there I would do my own drilling and piping for them sicne I already have guages left over from my diesel truck. I'm just not sure If its worth my time to do it while stock. How much is a Dashdaq or interceptor anyways? Will they read exhaust temp at all? I am guessing now but I just want to make sure. I wish the RPD could be used to show what I want and not what is pre-programmed on it. Its still a sweet guage though.

I don't have any idea about stock. I had an aftermarket IC early on after my stocker cracked its endtank, then got a Dashdaq, and a K&N SRI shortly after that... so I don't really have any way to gauge that anymore.

With my mods, the temp difference is minimal when moving. The IAT2s will usually be hotter when not moving much due to heatsoak, but come down once you start moving for a few mins.

The Dashdaq is a bit on the expensive side. Although I like it a lot, I wouldn't recommend it if you're trying to keep a very stock look, since it mounts to the windshield like a car GPS. I've been able to pull off making it look like a second pillar screen with the RPD though. ZZP will be coming out with a gauge pod that allows you to keep the RPD while adding round gauges such as the Aeroforce Interceptor or other analog gauges.

I've changed a few things, such as adjusting the location slightly and completely hiding the cable going to the Dashdaq, but this gives you an idea of what it looks like.

Yes, the exhaust temp is there, but it's a calculated value to my knowledge (for cat overheat protection purposes). Using it shouldn't be an issue I wouldn't think though.

Dang stamina that thing is huge. But I like knowing whats going on in my motor. The stuff in cars today are designed for people who can't drive and look at guages at the same time. I wish someone made a heads up display like the vettes have. Make it feel like you were in a F-18 cockpit

That would be sweet to have a HUD like the 'Vettes have. I dreamed up a design for one, but couldn't come up with a good way to convert the information into something that would display. That was the main downfall, since although I know how to program, I'm not very knowledgeable in starting from scratch with stuff like that.

Yeah, the Dashdaq is bigger than the RPD. It looks double-big due to the fact it's much closer than the RPD in the pic. It does need to be a bit bigger though because it's a touch screen and since it displays more information than the RPD, it needs to be bigger to still be easily readable.

It's not just a gauge/reader either. It can also be used as a GPS nav system (about the same size as one too), used to calculate performance stats, logging, reading/clearing CELs, watching movies and listening to music, looking at photos, etc. It's basically a small computer that runs off of Linux.
