Running hot all the time

So at stop lights and parked the car runs at 205 degrees. It only drops when driving to 194 but then back up at any stop is this normal? I just replaced sparks with ngk and gapped to .30. It was this way prior to spark replacement. I got no cels and get 25 miles to gallon. I can hear the fan running and it drops when i turn the heat on full blast.

is your plastic cover off of your engine? When you take that off you get like 5 degrees cooler. Maybe try that???

ecotecturbo Feb 22, 2011 10:05 AM

That is normal temps for the lnf. There is no plastic cover on the lnf

DillySS Feb 22, 2011 10:06 AM

What plastic cover?

09Sp0rt Feb 22, 2011 10:06 AM

oh :) nevermid then!!! :D

I need thread jack myself, but anyone know in the chicago area a place that can do air fuel tuning. I have trifeca but once in a while i can hear a tad of timing knock?

drewbroo Feb 22, 2011 11:22 AM

ask vince for a retune. He will get rid of the knock for you for free. (Its part of the tune)

Iam Broke Feb 22, 2011 11:36 AM

OP, Mine runs 205-210*f all winter long, 192-195 all summer. Nature of the beast, do a few moderate pulls and the t-stat will open up & it cools down to 195 or so.

Iam Broke Feb 22, 2011 03:58 PM

Yeah, Kreibs is closer to you than me, that's for sure.

BartSS Feb 22, 2011 04:39 PM

Broke man where are you at? i need to get dialed in for my intake. And kriebs is too south for me im right by chicago

reefer_roids Feb 22, 2011 04:51 PM

i have been running between 187-194 most days and i have a K&N sri. from what i have read, it seems that the sri should raise the temperature when neutral, but i havent noticed anything yet. we will see what happens in the summer time.

blackbird Feb 22, 2011 05:56 PM

That seems pretty normal from what I've noted and nothing to be concerned about. Modern engine controls keep tabs and work with the thermostat to run the fans as needed to keep the coolant in a pretty narrow but somewhat hot range compared to older cars that might still get just as hot on occasion but have wider temperature swings. Running on the hotter side allows for cleaner emission and on days when I've been at a near empty track and did almost 30 runs down the quarter mile near back-to-back the car ran extremely consistently. I wouldn't worry about it.

vahdyx Feb 22, 2011 06:28 PM

Would MPx intercooler lower these temps a little?

12 miles south of Valparaiso between two podunk towns. Pretty far from you also I'm afraid. :D

PrincessTurbo Feb 22, 2011 07:20 PM

205 is pretty norm for me . Cruising is like 198 usually unless I'm in boost hard for a while

Gremlin85 Feb 22, 2011 07:46 PM

I gotta say, I run anywhere from 189-195 while driving and it'll go to 199-201 in traffic this time of year... I've seen 212-215 at the track but never above 205 during summer driving.

You might want to "burp" your coolant system just to make sure there is no air... maybe mine just runs cooler than most but I'd still check for air in yours.

Just throwing that out there. Not trying to worry you. Might be perfectly normal as others said.

StevesBlack06 Feb 22, 2011 07:54 PM

The intake charge temps are not directly related to the coolant temp. If anything a larger front mount intercooler could reduce air flow through the condenser/radiator assembly at lower speeds but the computer should try to run the fan more to compensate. At the temps everyone here is describing there really isn't anything to worry about as they are well within normal operating range.

scannerman Feb 22, 2011 09:31 PM

mine stays around 183 when cruising on the highway. it will go up to around 200 when idling around.

vahdyx Feb 22, 2011 10:38 PM

Ever since Trifecta I feel like I've been running hotter too. Could be in my head, but seems like with ZZP canned I'd often find myself at 198, now with Trifecta I feel like I'm at 203-205 idle and 194 highway.

you might just be paying more attention to your temps

I honestly think the hotter temps are due to the heater running on full HOT. It just doesnt make sense that it runs hotter when its waaaaayy colder out lol Its my only theory. but yeah, nature of the LNF. Nothing to worry about.
