Steering Column Part # Differences

Working on a little project. For the cobalt's that have the JL4 option I am seeing there is 3 different part numbers that could possibly work.

19209158 (for LNF)
19209159 (for HHR SS)
19209156 (for cobalt sport)

Any one know the main differences? I remember reading the HHR one has a beefier electric power steering motor. Can anyone get a picture break down of the internal gear and components? Have a buddy that does plastics molding and possibly looking into making a better gear.

What troubles do you have with power steering? I assume your gear is stripping?

Just the typical steering column clunk. From my understanding, the plastic gear wears and causes the noises. Steering is still perfect and super responsive just makes noises.

If you knew someone with a 5D CNC then you could make one out of brass and it would be the end of ever replacing it.

Sub'd for answers since I'm sure eventually I'll have to replace mine.

Yeah I'm interested in this info as well as mine has never been replaced and I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Why not install the new one and open up the old one? You will then be able to see first hand what's going on with it and remove your clunck for awhile

This is a good idea, unless he has two new one to look at.

Id like to open a new and old one side by side to see what the were making the factory tolerances on the gears and compare that with a 8 year old. Then see what can be done to improve and prevent the issue.
