Stock turbo(Ko4) life???
So, I am wondering what the life of our stock turbo is?
I have 44k miles on my car right now, and I'm not sure yet, but it sounds like I have major shaft play and the blades of the turbo wheel is grinding the turbo when giving gas and letting go.
This is a major concern, and I'm wondering if anyone else had to replace their turbo around my mileage?

******* ever!!!
No, it all depends on how the 44k have been on your car. Has the car been beaten good? I rarely here anything on our stock turbo's. Wish there was a rebuild kit you could just buy. The good thing is that you can get one for a good price or upgrade...........I think it's time.

ive had the car since 30k miles and taken very good care of it and drive it back and forth to work (slowly)..it has been tuned for 5k miles. It really sounds like i have shaft play and the blades of the turbo are hitting the housing when i give it gas though

There are spare KO4's going up for sale in the Classifieds all the time for $200.
Aaron, you have sure had a lot of problems with your car, lately. Vahdyx was the same way for a while. You sure it's the turbo? Take off your intake tube and see if there's any damage or shaft play.

i know man..it sucks because i take such good care of my car and people compliment it all the time about how nice and clean it is, and how well the engine bay looks like a new car, but yet i seem to have flippin issues all the time...
wouldnt i have a loss in power if the turbo had shaft play?
Thanks for the info on used turbos, but if i have to replace it, im gonna buy a pwerks one, or a hahn 20g, unless that damn zzp one is gonna be affordable...lol

I would think that if your blades EVER hit the housing they would literally disintegrate or at least be damaged so badly it would never work properly again. You are probably hearing a heat shield vibrate or something else. I highly doubt the blades are coming into contact with the housing.

i would need someone to start it while i recorded it. It sounds just like how 40rty car sounded right before it went boom...lol..except mine is only on cold start ups and only twice while im driving.
i listened to it, and it was coming right from where the timing chain is, you can hear it grinding/slapping around clear as day.

Its fairly easy to record on your own. Open your window, stick your cell phone out the window and aim the camera at the hood. Press record. Turn on car. Record gut wrenching sound. Stop recording. Upload to YouTube. Post here. Done.
