Is valve Coking covered under warranty?

Probably a stupid question, but the car I just picked up has 13X,XXX km on it, so still 3x,XXX km left on the power train warranty, the cars bone stock and I didn't know if carbon build up on the valves was a warranty thing or not... would they clean it under warranty? or am I stupid to ask this question lol

I WISH! But that's not gonna happen, you're on your own for this 1. I asked Chevy dealer other time ago while I was researching valve coking. I was surprised that GM don't warranty it and they don't know why it cause that.

Only if your engine has issues.

Nope. They want people to start seeing it as a warranty item like oil changes, etc. on conventional engines.

if the coking causes a cel and idle and stalling issue, for sure GM will cover it under warranty, in my opinion. Myers used to do a lot of them. Some service managers simply try the addtive crap which doesnt work. Bottom line the car must work properly and not stall, which is a characteristic of severe coking. The GM guys may be waking up to not stonewalling issues that can cause potentially dangerous situations.

google Ford Pony gas tanks.

Solution, buy Powell's separator and pay him to clean the valves at the same time he installs the separator. Then you have clean valves and a way to keep them clean

^or just clean them every 50k or so.. thats pretty much my plan of attack, which should be maybe once every 3 years at this rate with the car barely getting driven

you can buy a 7 led borescope on ebay for 20 dollars plug it into your lap top to monitor valve condition.

Some BMW owners were able to get a cleaning done under warranty. I'm not sure how. Clueless dealers?

Same solution is over on an e9x board.. PCV upgrade and cleaning at the same time, some even opt for an OCC as well.

After 40k miles, valves look nasty.

If it causes issues like misfires, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be covered. The valves are part of the drivetrain. I realize dealers can be a pain, but I don't see how they could screw you on it if you have actual issues stemming from the coked valves.

Padlock mine had 32,000 on it when i cleaned them and they were bad. Good luck with the 50,000 mile thing. I think its just the way these motors go. I am kind of interested if the guys running meth on a 5th injector setup can keep them cleaner by putting it through the intake.

I had misfires and a bad idle and the dealer still told me no way. GM customer service also told me no.

Over 16,000 miles is barely driving? I can't imagine what heavy driving is then haha.

for me, yes. while in college I've been putting on about ~25-30k a year.. thankfully I've got other vehicles to drive to keep the miles off the SS.. only 15k a year on it so far under my ownership (with storing it as much as I can during the winter)

If you have a CEL and the car wont pass emissions, you have a case. Dont give up unless you chose to.

That would be nice, but I enjoyed Powell's anti coking catch device.

Problem is, "damage" would be already done from the start. Powell upgrade would be ideal right after cleaning.

Can't believe that kind of mileage in a year.. I'd be luck to get over 9k. I average 7-8.

If I owned my cobalt from new, it would still be a baby.
My mom's cavi is an 04 and has like 50k miles on it.
