140,000 mile LSJ, still reliable?
I'm about to purchase a 2006 LSJ Cobalt SS G85 with 140,000 miles on it from a dealer for 8,000. I'm worried that 140,000 miles is very high as far as engine durability is concerned. There's also 76,000 mile non-G85 optioned car for 11,900 that I am considering.
Is there anything I should be on the lookout for? I don't want to buy the 140,000 mile car and have it die on me but I want the G85 option, mainly for the LSD. Thanks for any replies!

Engine is not a big factor, you still have clutch, transmission, suspension, body, brakes.....
If the car is clean and was not crashed and didn't have a whole bunch of owners I would pull the trigger on it but only for a REALLY good price that would give me enough room to fix up whatever is wrong with it and whatever will go wrong.
If I were in your shoes I would keep shopping.

I edited my original post to provide more information. I had a 2007 LSJ SS for about a year before I traded in but I only put 30,000 miles on it and bought it brand new. I want to get a second daily driver that wont crap out after a little spirited driving.

2006 cobalt ss supercharged
2007 CHEVROLET COBALT SS SUPERCHARGED, $8,800
Not many decent options from a quick search. That second one could be good if you know how to speak Spanish

Or buy that and take the ghey side vent off and essentially have a Cobalt SS for a lot cheaper.

I wouldn't pay that much for either of those cars.
But 140k on a car that's been decently cared for should have years of good life left in it. We aren't talking about something built 20+ years ago where things did start having major issues in that mileage range. Some guy on here put over 200k on an lsj without major problems. I think it got totalled in an accident.

I just sold my 260,000 km ecotec 2.2 cavvy for top dollar. No more than .5 litre of oil consumed in 10k oil changes. New Ecotec wntrBtr Saab 2.3 tc should be good for at least that or more. I believe that with stock tunes, ecotecs are good for 500,000 km, or 400,000 miles. Once an Eco is diy tuned, then all bets are off. That said, GM stage 1 for TC and stage 2 for SC passed GM 100,000 mile durability tests. that says a lot. We are blessed to have Ecotec motors 4 sure.

The LSJ is a tank. I have 153250 miles. Still runs incredibly strong.
I would pass on those though, they're definitely overpriced. Classifieds here are a lot more fair and have better cared for cars.

Reliability has very little to do with mileage (to a point) and everything to do with maintenance. My first car lived to be ~275,000 miles. The guy who bought it from me then sold the *original* motor to someone for $100, he got another 80,000 miles out of it before he totaled that car. My dad's Blazer went over 400,000 miles on the original motor.
A well-maintained motor will last a LOT longer than 140,000 miles. The problem is with a used car, you have no idea how the person before you maintained it. You COULD crack open the motor and look for internal signs, but no dealer will go for that.
I would try and talk them down. Any particular reason you're holding out for G85 for a daily driver?
