black is not good !

Have one Q. I have a 2005 Cobalt SS/SC and I have noticed alot of carbon comming out of the rear of the car. I clean the tip but one day its back. I also changed the spark plugs to NGK 'S iridium bkr6eix and when I pulled the stock ones out there was carbon in there too. Now I am learning about tooners guys so dont yell . Also 2nd and mostly 3rd gear a little slugish at start when going thrue gears and feels like I have lost power since I bought it . Help me make it fast and run good I love the car love it want it to run smooth and fast what do I need to do ?:usa:

2006BlackSS/SC 07-30-2006 01:23 AM

my ss/sc does the same thing with carbon on the tip i think all cars do it but im not sure

Shermen 07-30-2006 01:28 AM

not sure but i think it has somthing to do with an intake if you too have one? my ss started to do this when i got my intake.

cavy-to-SS 07-30-2006 01:29 AM

Need help

:usa: good too now what about my other Q'S can you help me?

I believe this is due to our car's being "Performance Cars" they run a little rich and that is the cause of the black on the exhaust tip. If I'm mistaken someone enlighten me caus it bugs me as well:lol:

Solution To Black Spots On Bumper!!!

Guys, I have found the solution!!!! Turtle Wax's Bug and Tar Remover spray. It comes in a black spray bottle "like windex does" and all you do is spray, wait 2 min, and it wipes off like dust. I did it today and couldn't be happier. $3.88 a bottle at Wal*Mart.

djin05im 07-30-2006 01:39 AM

well what should I do for tuning then where do I start , want it to run right.

You hit it right on the dot...the car is running rich if it has black stuff coming out the exhaust. When I did the test tuning for INTENSE I turned the yellow strap black with the exhaust.

If it is white then you are running too lean.

djin05im 07-30-2006 01:48 AM

help

is that bad runing rich ? change gas ?:usa:

vandy0419 07-30-2006 01:59 AM

No, running rich isn't bad. Doesn't maximize your performance but is safe for the car. Running lean is where stuff can go bad. When my car was running rich and we got the a/f balanced out I had gained 20whp in midrange...

djin05im 07-30-2006 02:07 AM

Thanks for the help gents ~! all good answers.

I've never seen that on Cobalts. I do see that all the time on my friend's Evo though, and I mean straight black lol.

Can adding a cold air intake like just say AEM help with shifting ? I did some messing around with the air and put a second filter on the breather and it seems like it is breathing better and shifting nicer and lower sound in exoust and almost like higher rpm range in 2nd and 3rd and up nothing really to 1st. Is that possible or is it my mind messing with me????????

Running rich is not good. You can mess up a motor running too rich just as fast as you can running too lean.

If your plugs get too much carbon on them, they won't fire consistantly and that is where things can go bad. Also too much carbon build up through out your engine and exhaust can lead to too much heat and engine fires.

IonNinja 07-31-2006 06:00 AM

all of these cars run rich (Ions and Cobalts)

even my 2.2 has carbon buildup on the exhaust tip

djin05im 08-01-2006 06:14 AM

So who is right ? help me out rich good , or rich bad ...............?

djin05im 08-01-2006 06:20 AM

dont know about cars yet , so dont poke fun , tranny filter are you saying It needs to be changed ? have 19,000 miles on it:usa:

agreed..

thats why its good to go out and give ever car you have hell every now in then.. blow out the carbon buildup

[QUOTE=Sizzle]Running rich is not good. You can mess up a motor running too rich just as fast as you can running too lean.QUOTE]

So how do you find the perfect middle ground where you don't hurt your performance and your engine? I have been running rich since I got the car. HP tune?

yeah tune... smaller pulley i believe leans it out a bit...

Razz2o4 08-03-2006 03:10 PM

The reason you are running rich is because you are supercharged. If you lean out the least bit on a blown motor like ours, you start to detonate. Cobra's are the same, Ford Lightning, if you jump on it will blow black smoke. Its not runing too rich, just have to kinda keep it fed

djin05im 08-03-2006 03:33 PM

lean ?

So what if it is running a little lean ? then what direction do I take ?:usa:

Razz2o4 08-03-2006 03:35 PM

Computer should richen it up automatically
