cam angle sensor
i once read somwhere that the cam angle sensor on the lsj is not needed. any truth to this? if so what are the advantages/disadvantages of deleting it? thanks in advance css.

bump for an answer
|
I'd imagine it's there because it does something important.
|
well the way i understand it is all it does is read the rotation of the cams when firing the car up. if its not set correctly or not there at all it would just take a few more cranks before it would fire up.
|
ya mine is in wrong, it just takes a while to start up. i park on a hill, so if it doesnt start up the first or second time i just jump it
|
its there so the pcm knows were the cams are. this is needed for the pcm to know if the motors firing cyl 1&3 or 4&2 during the next rotation of the crank. when the cam sensor has issues the pcm will default to waste spark ignition, firing all 4 coils during each rotation of the crank, so when the exhaust valve is open, the coil in that cyl wil fire.

interesting. so i should probably try to set it corectly then. dosnt it have to be set at like 10:00 at tdc or somethin
|
It needs to be set with piston 4 at tdc
|
at tdc on the compression stroke piston 4...
i dont have a compression tester so i didnt know which it was on, and thats why its wrong |
yea i knew that it had to be at tdc on 1 and 4 compression stroke. so it sits in the 10 o clock position? or is there a mark that needs to line up? i had to do it on my last build but i cant remember for the life of me how i did it.

I'll make this really simple.
Set the #4 piston at TDC. Then on the housing of where the cam sensor is, you will see a small line/engraving. Line that up with the key on the sensor and put it together. https://www.cobaltss.net/gallery/fil...CKP_timing.JPG |
i thought there was a mark that needed to be lined up. thanks a lot

no problemo!
