valve springs are a critical part of this motor, and require detailed attention for anyone spending a lot of time +6800 rpm and beyond...

so i never get a straight answere on valve springs. some people say they are good to 7500 some say they are good to 6500 what gives, any concrete info. i see videos of people going to 7200 all the time and i dont hear of too many problems. ive got stock cams now so i would love to know if i could go over the 6800 i usually shift at... but then again i see the stock cams dont make power over 6500 or so, or was that just where area let off the gas

i zinged the stock springs to 7400 a couple times. it also showed up on the dyno graph that the springs were getting weak up top as well.
what im running and some others are running are the supertech 78lb spring set up. the springs, retainers, and seat locators. zero problems with these. my car has seen a couple 8k revlimter bounces out of sheer stupidity on my part.
i normally shift when my light comes on at 7500. the car is going down in power by then anyways. so it's a moot point to zinging it that high. at least with the stock blower that is.

Are the supertech springs dual area? Just wondering because I emailed supertech and asked them for a price, they quted me $485 on the kit. I know ootperformance sells them for $360 and I told him that. He said no way they are the right springs. I know they are but just wondering.

#1 check with Alpha Jaguar or you Area, for springs i think there is some machine work to be done to the head to fit ferrera springs? You rev more, so the drop down to the next gear keeps you in the power band nice and fat. On the drag strip, as a general rule he who shifts last wins....but not always thats why its a general rule I hit the rev limiter in first (7k) doing burnouts ( I can do that now, no power hop)

the supertech kit comes with seat locators so you can run the stock seats with zero machining to be done
works beautifully.
i don't get wheel hop either. i just get tire destruction through first and second

with the ferrera stuff. you have to modify the seats, or bad things happen to the rockers and lifters. alpha knows all about that one

Correct. I've been using the Supertech ones probably for longer than anyone here with zero issues due to the fact that the included seat locaters were manufactured out of concern my machinist had about the inner spring causing wear on the seat/seal. They now include these locators with the "kit" you buy from one of their vendors (Dezod I know includes them). Another local LSJ thats turbo swapped uses these with no problems either right up to 8000rpm.
your concern for being **** with things has helped others not follow the kittys foot steps
we just screw the pooch on the coloring book

not only would it wear down, it could also break it out of the aluminum itself. local ls1 goober did this to a set of texas speed heads.

fyi, I have never had an issue with any engine build I've had my hands on yet. Dan's should be in the car by the end of the week, hope to keep my perfect record.

i know you haven't. not everyone posessed the magic knowledge at that time. i also learned. do not bother the person building the motor. bug them when it runs

Are any of you guys who rev past 7200 have the GMPP neutral balance shafts? Basically I'm wondering if they are required or not. Because I'm wanting to set my rev limiter at 7500 with some cams and springs etc... and need to know if I should get the shafts or not.

I'm sure there are guys far more knowledgable than I on this subject but I have been told that the stock valve train is good up into the high 7000RPM range that valve float becomes an issue. 6500 is the redline for a stock SS/SC while 7200 is the redline for the Stage 2 balts.
