Clutch assistrance for the n00b??

Hey Guys. This is my first post I bought my cobalt ss/sc in august and It was my first manual car. Needless to say I sucked at driving for about a week and then everything was fine. my clutch started slipping a bit later, and just 2 weeks ago finally stopped working all together. SOOO Ive saved up enough to get a clutch and I have the install planned for next weekend. I fortunately have some really experienced guys helping do this.

My question is: does anyone have any specific clutches theyd recommend? Im bone stock now, and not going to be modding for awhile. Looking for something close to the stock clutch but there are a ton of kits that seem to be just as good for less. I peeped around the vendors on here but I am just lost when it comes to clutches

I know this install is going to be kinda rough so anyone thats done it that can offer words of wisdom, that would be cool too.

I did search for this but is there by chance a do it yourself section here or something similar that I can reference when I do this? Im really used to my old forum so Im still trying to find stuff here.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

If you're thinking of doing any power mods in the future, don't get the stock clutch. It can't hold anything beyond stock power.

The Upgraded clutch from Chevy is a good option if you aren't going to go crazy with mods.
Ecotec LSJ Clutch Upgrade Kit 19212712 - Crate Engine Depot

It's also located in Grayslake, so if it works for you, you can save on shipping and just pick it up. Don't order it online, give them a call. The number is on their website.

We have some guys in Chicago who have done 3 clutch changes on different Cobalts. PM me if you run into any problems, or just want some more info.

Lots of kits to choose from, like you said.
That upgraded clutch option for the LSJ, that Whitnith posted, is most likely your best bet.
Very popular choice, cheap, reliable, and leaves a lot of room for upgrades. Everything included, but a flywheel.
You could pick up the matching flywheel for like another $100, if your current one isn't machinable.

Stick with the GM upgrade. Its a great upgrade and will hold a lot of power especially once you learn to drive Not to mention you wont find a similar quality clutch for similar money

Oh trust me, having CED that close is highly dangerous. Far too easy to pick up stuff you "need", but super nice when you actually need parts ASAP.

Be sure to check out the Chicago threads in the Mid Central section. We are trying to get a Chicago Ecotec (because we have some Cavis who come out) group up and running again. Should be having a meet at the end of the month in a yet to be decided suburb.

cool. funny thing is right after I joined my last forum someone said the same thing to me, and 3 months later that guy and myself put together the biggest chicago meet theyve ever had. I think 40+ Tiburons showed up. it was fun as hell. let me know what I can do to help, Im pretty good at planning events.

And yes...that location is dangerous. Its 2 blocks away from my brothers house. Ive already arranged a free delivery service lol

Oh, we can pull in the numbers.... Once a year...

CED (the parts vendor) hosts a Mega Meet in June. People drive/fly in from as far away as Canada, California, Florida, and New York.

Last winter we had about 20 or 25 people a month show up for our meets, which at least during the winter is just getting dinner together.

Last couple months we've had 6 people. Dunno what's up, but we are going to try hard core now to get the numbers back. Check out this thread, and chime in on your vote for a new suburb meeting spot. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/mid-...ecotec-264256/

Eh, don't worry about it.

For awhile I flat out said in my sig I was a girl, and the same thing happened all the time.

Congrats!

And yeah, it sucks. I watched my friends when they did mine. Took them 7 hours, and that was the 3rd Cobalt they had done one on, so they had it down.
