foam thing?

foam thing?
Underneath and part of the crank case vent tube that goes into the intake is a little square piece of foam covering a small opening. Mine is all dry rotted and nasty, leaving the opening unprotected. What is this? Is it something that I should try to fix?

Awesome, I had been looking for that. You wouldn't also happen to know where I could find a replacement hose vent hose that goes into the intake?
