g85 vs no g85
Ok, is there a noticeable difference between having, and not having the LSD in these cars?
Like I test drove one about 8 months ago with the recaro performance package (g85 i assume) Then less than a month ago i test drove one without the recaro performance packge (no g85).. It seemed like the one i drove a month ago didnt have much balls compared to the other one.. is there that much of a noticeable difference between the two? or did i just drive a lemon or something |
Its all in your head. But get g85 if given the option.
|
Cant really compare the two, weather, gas type(reg or premium most dealers put in whatever), age of gas etc. Go out and test drive both the same day from the same dealer.
|
well i will definately get g85 when i get it next month, but it felt noticeably different, i guess your right about conditions though, i never thought about that..
|
It would seem very difficult to tell the difference in the way you did. If the g85 was the first Cobalt SS/SC you drove, it could have been the wow effect. Second time you knew what to expect so you weren't so shocked.
|
if you can get the g85 get it.... I feel its worth it, hence my g85 packaged black ss/sc
|
SOme who have no idea what the G85 LSD really does will tell you it's quicker in the 1/4 and has less wheel hop and so on but thats all bullshit.
In actuallity the fwd LSD does very little except when cornering and even then it does very little. |
I guess thats why most,or all high hp front wheel drive race cars don't use a limitted slip (I'm being sarcastic)
|
Wow and drag racing cars run Goodyear tires I better get some too!
The LSD available in the SS/SC isn't a full race differential it's like a 80/20 bias rather than true 50/50 like say a full engaged race differential. Like I said some only think they know......... |
Get the package for the seats if nothing else!

Get the g85 package, I dont have but I wish I did. Went to get but the car was inputted in the system would not let me make changes
|
well #1 ask trix what happened to his non-g85 diff... I think it only made it 3k miles... also I'd rather run goodyears... they's hook better than these shitty pirelli's....

I was gonna say the exact same thing, some people think they know what they are talking about, lmao, research for the win. *cough 06blackg85ss cough* Steve99gxe, i HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt you felt the difference. |
ok im not usually one to pull this card but HOLY COW!!! this has been discussed prolly 5 times in threads, use the damn search button
|
well like i said, there was like 8 months between the test drives, and also the conditions that could alter the cars performance could have been in affect as well..
I was just curious, i didnt know it was a 80/20 diff, thats good to know.. and now i know it isnt proven to make better 1/4mile times as well.. just better road course times, and an all around better diff.. thanks guys |

go g85,
its got recaros...get it...they are so sexy on my arse! |
The only reason I would want it is for a better heat cycle of mr DRs or slicks.
|
hey listen guys... I"m an old school rear drive v8 guy.... just from my experience with those cars I would never use an open dif... I guess its different with the front drivers... my bad, just tryin to pass on some info. (not being sarcastic).. ever see a one legged mustang.... they go nowhere.

There is a big difference between FWD and RWD differential requirements.
FWD: - Added weight of engine and trans above wheels - Decent FWD cars now use equal length shafts - Less unloading of driven wheels RWD: - Less than 50% of vehicle weight over driven wheels (excluding C5 & C6) - It is very easy to unload the driven wheels with power or cornering I have had it all when it comes to V8 RWD's from LS1's to Mustang GT's and have covered the differential spectrum from Auburn types to Torsen units. With RWD you see more of a benifit with LSD in straight line peformance than cornering. In corners the inside wheel can unload and spin like mad. |
True, I don't road race though so I've never had an actual LSD setup, or used the benefits on one, I always ran the eaton posi units so I was going by that, and in drag racing I"m a big fan of rwd because of the weight transfer benefits... if you watch my monte launch.... I think just about 90% of the cars weight is transferred to the rear wheels (front wheels up).
|
I also miss RWD launches, on my videos of my Camaro SS's you could see the front tire lift ever so slightly off the track.
|
I wish I had a video of my monte at the track, ripped off the bumper.... stood straight up... gotta love the nitrous.
|
get the g85, there will be no dissappointment! they are not slower, it probably was low octane gas in the one you test drove b/c i felt the same way when i first test drove a non-g85 way before i test drove the one i bought, it felt faster, but after i had my car for a while and put premium in it, i was much more pleased. the dealership i bought this car from had their own 87 octane pump so i'm sure thats what the problem was. the g85 package with recaro's and an LSD for 1500 is well worth it. unless u are pinching pennies and dont care. if u are into performance, get the performance package!
