header and downpipe install failure

alright its my day off and i get my new cti header and downpipe from ups

i planed on saving the install for when i got my corsa exaust but my 2 buddys and i were bored so they told me i should install it...

we started at about 6pm and finally gave up for another day at about 8 because of the homecoming game that i already missed half of...

for all you people who installed your own header and downpipe was this really that hard to do???

it seemed like all the nuts were hard to reach and took forever

I'm doing my install on my CTI tomorrow night. Same thing, I've got a couple buddies coming over. Other than the bolts being difficult to get to, it appears to be a pretty basic install. Did you run into any problems?

problems mainly are the bolts

plus not being able to get to one of the bolts that connect the header and downpipe

now i have to unbolt the header and retry

but there are like 4 bolts that are extremely hard to get to even before you put the big honken header on

When my header was done, not the CTI, the header bolts were a bitch. Tight area up in there.

When I replaced the headgasket, the manifold bolts are not torqued down that much so that shouldn't be an issue. I dropped the downpipe when I had to replace that (on 2 jackstands for the front) in under 30 minutes. It didn't take but like 5-10 minutes to put it back up either. 1/4 drive ratchet with a swivel and deep socket should get the job done. Ratchet wrenches are a lifesaver for the downpipe bolts. I say 4 hours max on this car for header and downpipe, with a brake for something to drink in between. It did take me 8-9 hours on my Z24 though!

lets see now, ive done a downpipe about 7 times now and ive done a header 3. there are 3 bolts on the header on the driver side that are a pain in the ass. your best bet is to use a swivel attachment to get these. on the downpipe, make sure u use ALOT of wd-40 to loosen the bolts up.

Glad to hear you got it done! Yes, once the cat is removed, the exhaust gets more raspy. I don't have a cat on mine and with Corsa Touring, I think it sounds pretty good! There hasn't been any dyno proof to let you know how much power you'd lose by putting the cat back on. I'm not sure about the cruise control, you could try disconnecting the battery for an hour and see if it resets? To get rid of the CEL, you're thinking of 02 Simms or "spoofs". They don't have any for our car if I remember, so you'll just have to get it tuned out with HP Tuners. Now I'm curious, what are your other mods, and how is the power increase?

use long extentions and a flex socket from below the car... an impact helps too... but its easy enough without...

Just did my CTi 3" downpipe\cat yesterday. This thing is well worth $200. Only thing is I've got a small buzzing sound only when I get on it. Funny thing is there is not one leak?

i only have

gm stage 2
ngk bkr7e .40
injen cai
and the cti

i felt a decent power increase but i think it will get alot better with the relearn and when i dont have the damn stock exaust.... i think thats holding back the full potential

loss .5 psi about

anyone else have an opinion about my cruise control???? and will the battery really work??

Will the mechanical O2 sim work on our cars? It worked great on my 02 Eco Crapalier.

what do you guys expect. it isn't a v8. you just gotta use a swivel or two and reach in there. i'm fat and i still managed to do it in the driveway.

I also had a buddy help and on the ones that were a bitch to get to, one of us would reach from the bottom and get the socket and extension on and th other would slide in the rachet and connect them.

didn't take but a few hours.

That sucks you had install problems. I just installed my XTC header and downpipe. Things went normal. A couple bolts were tough to get off but nothing crazy. Hope it all works out bro.

I just installed a 3"cti D/P and cat (my stock cat got plugged, and after punching a hole through it I needed emissions legal cat). The best way to remove ANY bolts on the exhaust is a torch, heat nuts for about 3 minutes making sure you DON'T point the flame on anything that isn't metal or you will burn it or cause a fire. Bolts took me 10 minutes on cat and down pipe, once removed the header is much easier to get to. Use heat, lots of heat and I'll bet you won't need 2 hands, and I'm a 130# skinny white boy, so it shouldn't be to much harder.

Bad news is the cti expansion pipe wasn't welded centerline to the flange, so the inside hole is sitting over the gasket ring causing an exhaust leak. It's just enough off where normal driving with light gas it doesn't leak, but once pressure is added it makes a fluttering sound. I'm going to try making my own copper gasket and see if that works, or bring it back, since CTI is like 15 minutes down the highway.

Also performance wise, I can't tell, but I went from 20# boost to 15# and I have stock header/cat back. It feels like it is a little peppier, but till I race my buddy I won't know for sure. Hptuners also showed the car is breathing alot, I'm fearing I might have lost TO much backpressure.

oh and my stock exhaust system sounds like a champ with a cat and without a cat haha very loud.

well im impressed with the cti combo but i would be more impressed if i had the corsa exaust....

but if im taking it in to get my cruise working i of course need to put the cti cat on but will disconnecting the battery get rrid of all the signals of not having one on???

i just dont want to take it in until those are gone so my warranty isnt fucked even mroe than it already is lol

I just use plastic car ramps, and get dirty haha. and what are you talking about signs of not having a cat, the only thing that would show that is if you disabled dtcs with hptuners. Also the corsa sounds amazing alone, and ******* loud too, I can't even imagine with the 3"header+straight pipe. Already not road legal with exhaust db.
