Help installing a new PCM

I ordered a ZZPerformance stage 2 with the 3.0 pully and the 42# Injs. I have only one question about hooking the PCM. Do I just plug it in and go, or is there a certian order that I have to do. Not really sure what I need to do. PLEASE help!!!!

jsh_cch May 18, 2009 08:06 AM

Can anyone help me on this.

disconnect battary and install. reconnect battery. that for the pcm. but if i were you i wouldnt run that can tune that they sent you. no two cars are the same, your going to at least need to data log that tune while driveing to make sure its good, possible change stuff. i dont care what dealers tell you it never safe to just buy a ecu like that install and call it a day. your going to need hptuners or someone with it. call it safe dude i blew my motor cause of shity tuning from someone year ago

He's 100% right. No 2 cars are the same. Me and my buddy had the same year ss/sc, same exact mods...2 of the mods he sold me. Pretty much the same amount of km's on the car and my car was tuned alot different then his. Like OneCold said, disconnect the battery, plug the ecu in...reconnect the battery. And go for a data log run with the car and IF (most likely) stuff needs to be changed...change it with hptuners.

Okay... if this guy is buying a pcm from zzp.. he obviously does not have hptuners.

Now hes going to come back saying "whats hptuners? Is it easy to use?" Because you guys take no time in reading what this guys needs are.

He bought the PCM because he probably has no way, or no knowledge of tuning.

Its a "Canned" Tune. Yes, they are right in saying a custom, personalized tune is better... But the Stage kit is safe, and its not going to hurt anything. They generalize the tune so there isnt anything radical going on.

Yes, you just plug it in. They should send you a instruction sheet. New pcms require a "CASE Relearn" that is done at the dealer for normally half hour shop charge.

Thank you shortstack. I dont have a hptuner and I know that they are expensive to buy. That is why I have went with a purchased tune. Thanks for your man. I should have my order in the morning and can not wait to get it. The only thing that I have done to the car is the air box mod and a ZZperformance triple gauge pillar. I put a Mechanical Boost, Elec oil press, and A/F gauges form auto meter. Thats the only things done to it. Can't wait to get alittle more power out of my ss/sc.

ShortStack May 18, 2009 10:39 AM

The stage kit is quite a nice upgrade from just a intake :).

I need an oil pressure gauge myself.

It was just obvious that you didnt have hptuners and had no means of buying it... people just Answer with what ever comes off the top of their head sometimes.. and dont think about things.

Any questions just pm me if you need to.

I mean.. they were right in saying that a custom tune is best... But You obviously got a Staged PCM for a reason.

Thanks man I will if i have any questions.

short stack can answer an questions for you to when you blew your shit up to cause i know of 6 people that did what he did and bye bye motor, not right away but less that 20k later for how bad the tune was. but hey maybe they got better at tuning over night threw osmosis.... but i thought i'd help but, it seems you found what you were looking for. make sure to start a thread when you do a rebuild....

"canned tune" = ok for a base start to tune from there not leave as is.......

Gm stage tune is a Canned tune. Not everyone of them "blows".

the point of a canned tune is to get a tune if you cant get hptuners.

Is a custom tune better? Absolutley... Is your car going to "blow" because your running a canned tune? Absolutely not...

Are there canned tunes safer than others? Yes. ZZP isnt going to try to push a 12afr with 21 deg of timing with a canned tune. They keep things on the safe side so your car doesnt hurt itself..

You people really need to learn about a subject before you post. Its people like you, who listen to people like yourself, who post shit that they saw someone else post, and think its right.

Learned tuning over night through osmosis? Are you serious? You sir are a REAL moron.

You dont know 6 people that blew their engine on a ZZP canned tune. You may be thinking of Intense... Which is known to blow motors off of a canned tune.. They were also running very aggressive which isnt good on a canned tune. Which is why less and less people are getting canned tunes from them.

ZZP knows how to play things safe. Youll be fine... It wouldnt be intelligent to listen to somebody who obviously has no clue what they are talking about...

OneCOLDBIZL272 May 19, 2009 05:35 PM

3 were from intense and 3 were from zzp. and two beat the snot out of there car daily, and the other 4 drove their cars normal, funny thing was the 2 that beat on theres cars lasted longer, i just trying to say hey, this is happening consider it. for i know the 6 people that i know of arent the only ones out there that had this happen. the gm tune is a little bit different for it was designed by engineners..... the osmosis part was a joke.you should of at least laughed, lighten up.....I dont know all there is about tuning either. he needs to play it safe, thats basicly what im trying to say. im saying i wouldnt trust a canned tune, i dont care if god himself made it. id still double check it. its never good or smart to just run a canned tune with out at least data logging, it to at least check to make sure everythings running right and the tune doesnt suck, heck i dont want this kid to have issues, and dont say hes not cause you never know. he needs to data log or buy at least a scan gauge to watch the sensor in the car/and wideband.....man be safe rather than sorry it never hurts, dont be ignorant.
