How Much Oil??
How much oil does the LSJ take for an oil change?? I just got my car back from the dealership and I was charged for 6 liters of oil. That seems like a lot to me. Is that right?
Mine takes just over 6 quarts. this has been covered before, but we'll let you slide today.
if i only put in 6 it is just below the line. some people say it is only 5.5 but most say 6.
cool, just making sure.
i tried to search for the other thread but it found 11 pages of crap.
I put in 6.75 quarts...it's the same every time I have done it.
Why does this engine require so much oil? Most other 4 bangers use about 4-5
Lol i think I put 7.2 in when I did my last one...and 7 the one before that whoops
my lats oil chnage it was 6.5
Yes 6.5 today. Took me like 20 mins to take my filter out lol sure isint like the other lsj's. My oil was BLACK totally. I will likely start changing my oil every 3000km now since I drive it hard.
Definatley have to change your oil twice as often if you drive it hard. |
If you do the oil change right which is pulling the plug then pulling out the filter to let the oil that is traped up in the housing drain it should take about 6.5 everytime....but most places are lazy (even dealerships) and they will put the plug back in before pulling the filter. But then again most people will put 7qts. in for the fact your using bottled oil so with that many quarts you can end up having almost half a quart still in the bottles.
but the book says 7 L of oil...
on the capasities page of the owners manual it says it takes 5 quarts with a filter...

mine takes anywhere from 6.5 to 6.75 quarts everytime. Freakin $50 just for oil.
the manual says 6 for the LSJ, and 5 for the 2.2 and 2.4.
some WILL get stuck in the bottle... but that's why you should make sure you pour it all. i would start with 6 and then warm up the car and check. remember, it's better to have half a quart LESS than ideal, than half a quart MORE. |
I just did my oil change last time myself. It put in 6.5 and it was right at the full mark. The book says 6.0 quarts and I saw on here people were saying 6.5 quarts in the how-to. I just bought (2) 5 quart containers at wal-mart actually, of Mobil 1. 23 bucks for 5 quarts, cheapest I found, and I get it discounted through where I work. :twothumbs
Good lord, it takes 7 quarts of oil?! Is that to fill up the engine + SC? Ive got a 2.3L i4 honda right now and it only takes like 4 or 4.5 quarts
My wifes took just over 6.5qts
I used a little under 6.5 quarts... but I think they recommend 6???
