Subject: Changing from coolant to Purified water and "water wetter" only.

Ok, I spoke with a physicist/chemist/tuner/instructor tonight for a while about our cars intercooler efficiency. Our intercoolers use dexcool just like our engine cooling system and i'm sure you guys know this. We have been working with a Ford lightning in class trying to get as much power from it without changing pullies or anything internally. JUst a throttle body, tune and intercooler mods. Well, we have found that using purified water mixed with "water wetter" keeps the lightnings intercooler coolant temps down very much and it wont heat soak on the dyno, (with a fan blowing in front of it) it just keeps getting stronger and stronger the more we run it. Well the instructor explained it to me by saying this.... the purified distilled water's (no tap!) surface tension is already softer than the coolant itself. Meaning it can absorb heat and dissipate it more efficiently. In other words the softer a liquids surface tension is the easier it is to break into it and break out of it.... meaning the intercooler will absorb the heat from the hot intake air, and then dissipate the heat more efficiently to the atmosphere. He said that by adding watter wetter to the pure water, makes the surface tension 2ce as soft and gives it a ratio of 2:1 on obsorbing : dissipating the heat. Im guessing this means 2ce as fast as regular coolant also.- which he also said i think.- He also said it would be wise to add a small amount of coolant to the mix just to protect the rubber and seals. now, unless someone here can prove this is wrong, i may go ahead and try this. lol

i just wanted to share this info with you guys, this site has brought a ton of help to me so i figured if i ever could chip in a little info I would give it a try.

 

now how much power are we talking??? if its only a couple hp on a lightning it will be nothing on our cars. yes antifreeze isnt as good at cooling as straight pure water, but its their for a reason, to keep it from freezing. and water wetter is designed to lubricate all the seals and keep corosion down in cooling systems using straight water

 

duh water cools better jk with you man, people just have to remember to put Antifreeze back in there tho. so it wont freeze when winter comes back around.

I have been running just water wetter & Distilled water for over a year Now, No I dont have to worry about winter's here! Redline water wetter is great stuff & yes water conducts heat better than Dexcool!

 

What is the ratio of water wetter to distilled water?

NOT A GOOD IDEA for people that live in climates where the weather regularly get to freezing or below... Unless of course you run it summer only and remember to change back over before it gets cold.

 

i did that last summer. nothing new. coolant doesn't dissipate heat. it's a lubricant. the water mixture is what does the heat removal.
