Major rain issue
 

Hi, I drive a 06 SS/SC with a Injen CAI and ZZP Stage 3 kit

Usually, when its rain, I cant WOT the car because around 4000RPM, my car starts to choke and shakes (like if you hit the redline). Last night, we had a thunderstorm in Ottawa, Canada and it rained a lot. This afternoon, I started my car to go working and it wasn't drivable. The RPM was jumping all over the place (lowest 400, all the way to 1600 on neutral) and I couldn't drive. I drove about 100m and i had trouble to bring the car back. Its driving like it would stop all the time, like if it choked. Anyone else had this issue? Seems that it could be the CAI sucking some water? What should I do? I need this car for school and work :(

Kinda sounds like you are sucking up water. Should address this ASAP.

Look at ure drivers side fenderwell and u will prob have a hole there caused from your tires rubbing

crap water...thats what i thought thanks guys. So what is the first thing to check? take out the cai filter, dry it and add oil? thanks!!

THIS HAPPENS TO ME EVERY TIME IT RAINS!!!!

The first time was the worst, I thought I was about to hydrolock my engine, but after about 5-10 minutes of revving the piss out of it, it passed the little bit of water it sucked up.

Now, whenever it rains, I go to start it and the idle goes crazy like you mentioned. I'm almost positive it has something to do with the filter getting soaked and the engine choking from lack of air. I have a nasty little gap between the bottom of my headlight and my bumper that goes straight onto my filter.

I had to replace the fender liner for the FL and the the "Engine Splash Guard" underneath the car to completely protect the intake from the bottom, but like I said, water still gets in through the gap.

My solution when ever it acts up is to try and let it run to dry out the filter as best as possible. I let it idle for a bit and if it acts like it wants to die, I give it a little gas. Every 45sec-1min I bring the revs up to 2-3k (increasing every time) and hold them there for a few seconds. When it gets to the point where I can hold it at 3k without fluctuation, I'll let it drop down to idle and then peg it as if I wanted to hear the blower whine (to the floor, real quickly though). Then I put it in gear and drive it gently for a few minutes. When it starts to get a little better, I'll give it some throttle to get it into boost (this is usually where the problems come)...

If its good to go, you'll go into boost no problem, if not, the car will buck violently a couple times when you get close to boost (you won't make it into boost)

This usally works for me after a heavy rain. Hope it helps!

It's your MAF getting wet. Buy a hydroshield, that should fix it.

put the stock airbox back on or get a hydroshield. i had this happen to me before too i also have a injen CAI. i wish they made a SRI for the 06's.

did the same thing to me i replaced my CAI filter and cleaned my maf sensor and it never happened again.

haha my 09 SS/TC does this too when its really rainy outside i cant goose it or it studders and falls on its face and i have an SRI and good tune

Who said I went WOT? The only time the throttle got opened up all the way was in neutral. While driving, its more than possible to make boost at less than WOT

How do you know you can't go WOT unless you attempted to? Therefore it's assumed you go WOT in the rain.

This happens to me to but even with the hydroshield the filter still gets wet. What I do when it rains is let the car warm up a good 5 mins and drive careful, not shifting past 3000 rpms and just babying the car till the rain dries. I really do wish we had a short ram avaliable.

I had this problem on my base model before I got rid of it. The little gap between my headlight and fascia was enough to make the car bog and do all sorts of crazy shit. Now with my ss/sc I have never had a problem and I have had my ZZP 3" on for almost a year.

I really think it's a hit or miss. You guys are doing nothing wrong for your car to do it. It's just the luck of the draw.

Believe me, I drove that base model for 2 years, that problem sucked. Horribly. I can't imagine my ss/sc doing it. I'd cry.

i got a question do you drive your car in the rain? because if you do there is a gap in the back of the wheel well ?( plastic par) in the front that has a slit and what would happen when i was supercharged is when i would drive i would kick water into the injen intake and would do the same crap get a hydro shield it helps!

i heard the zzp intakes are 10x better then injen...it seems to be true by all the posts ive been reading
