Maybe a stupid question...
 

I've read about E85 recently. I know that most gasoline engines can burn ethanol without major modifications (i think anyways)... I've also read that E85 generally has higher octane ratings, along with more potential energy stored in it per gallon/liter/whatever... (this is another I think, I am by no means an expert)

but anyways, this got me thinking, Would it be possible down the line when (and if, hopefully so) E85 starts to be sold more widely to convert the LSJ over to burn E85?

I like the idea of burning cleaner fuels, and the fact that its possible it could yield higher power numbers is pretty dang cool too. I just wanted to see what other people on here thought about this brainstorm

It could be possible, however, the higher octane does help performance, but you'll be getting less MPG's than good ol' gasoline.

Thats another consideration that I hadn't thought of...

Thats an excellent question and one that i want to have answered to. But here are a few facts that may help a little.

1) E85 is about 110 octane.

2) E85 can eat through stock fuel lines

3) Most modern vehicles can be equipped with E85 capable fuel lines for about 100 bucks. But the vehicle will also need to be retuned for the higher octane.

If a stage 3 cobalt can run on 100 octane safely, i don't foresee this being a problem at all!

Yeah this is something else that I was wondering, what would be required to enable E85? fuel lines and injectors are obvious, but would gaskets need to be replaced too? I just read that the mileage is worse than gas, but it also costs less @ the pump....

But E85 is great...Just ethanol? or is it bio ethanol? If it is the same thing, we need to upgrade fuels and quick! :) It does do a great improvement...but you think, even though we will be burning more of it...we can produce it quickly and never run out...corn, and all that other jazz haha. i dont know exactly what goes into it...but we are going to adventually go to bio ethanol, european countries have it in some of their cars, I know Lotus has a car that is stock, just remaped their ecu and gain a good # of hp and tq...Exige I believ...supercharged or not...dunno. Ill try to find the link for the video for you all!

thats a pretty sweet car the only thing that sucked was trying to find a station that had the fuel required.

E85 has less energy in it compared to gasoline thats why bigger injectors are needed to run this fuel, more of it is needed to power your car. Yes it does have a high octane and i have heard that it will and will not destroy fuel systems, some people say definitly yes and others say definitly no.

Yeah, I was mistaken in my first post, it has less potential energy than gas, but the higher octane allows you to run it more aggressively, and yeah that youtube video was awesome. I would really love to find out what it could do in our cars

Sure we might eat it up more...but if we make it quickly, prices should stay at a good price....

I am sure if you retune the Stock Cobalt with that you can easy get 240whp and 220wtq...easy.
