Can you not read? If there's no blow out the. There's no need to change the gap it would do nothing for the tune.

First of all you folks calling people nut huggers of their tuners and all that **** can STFU. If your car is running great from the tune your tuner gives you off course you are going to back them up no matter what!

Dart-Si you been running the **** out your car...you stay street racing and at one point you was pushing 30 psi. If Someone came here talking **** about Area47 tune effing up their car you would be the first one to be like "hold up, shut the **** up, Area is the **** so something else need to be a factor in that" and guess what there is nothing wrong with that, cause you are happy of the product given to you by him. You experience that product everyday and can attest to how awesome it is. And that aint no nut hugging. Thats being supportive and not a dam thing wrong with that. The same would go for someone running a ZZP tune that they are very happy with, Term2 tune.... doesnt matter and the list keeps going. If we dont stand for our tuners who will? Just Like if we dont stand up and support the cobalt SS who will? If no one does the tuner communtiy will all think of our cars are a slow POS.

Me personally I been tooned by James almost 2 years now. Got his tune when I was under 50k miles and now I am at 88k. I drove coast to coast 4 times. Drove from cali to florida...raced around with derek and gooch then hauled ass back to cali. I daily my car, drag race it, road course, canyon run all on nasty as 91 oct gas in 2000ft alt. I may not push it to the extreme limit like others but I drive my car like a SS should be driven. So dam right im gonna stand behind my tuner James AKA CSS3. I never said my tuner is God or think he is one but He is a great tuner and a great guy. Period. Someone would have to prove to me without a shadow of a doubt that his tune and his tune alone destroyed this guys engine. Same thing like when someone is accused of murder

Since the folks who saying james is the reason or kind of pointing in his direction that he is to be blamed for this is either ******* CSI or inspector Gadgets, why dont they say answer all the pertinent questions? How this happened? When this happened? How come the person being tuned didnt blow up being logged or even see the detonation being logged?

I fucked my alero up by changing a couple parameter(not timing) in hptuners and trying it out. It was instant fail for my car and it wasnt forgiving. So why his car didnt fail immediately if the tune was such ****? Apparently the owner been winning races as it been said, so they probably been running the **** out their car which aint nothing wrong with that so there must be other factors.

All Im saying is there more to the story than being told, so instead of spreading rumours, guestimating...ASSuming about the tune get the facts before draging someone name in the mudd. You guys on the outside looking in...but if you are in the inside please do prove your case.

During the summer my IATS out here was like 100+. Had I been running my car hard like a retard in that temprature i probably could have fucked something up with my CSS3 tune..common sense told me not too...but what if I did? Who would to be blame me or my tooner?

We all want to be tuned, be faster and be reliable, but at the end of the day reliabiltiy will be on the lower end cause we are pushing the car past what it was intended ie. k04 at 20psi vs 25psi. And at what point do we as the person requesting these things assume responsibility?

I do know one thing If a tuner was a real shitty tuner for real for real....the whole community would know. It would not be no secret

@Vahdryx james had me run my stock plugs at .032 and my car purs and I get great mileage but like someone said different tuner have different style and you have the right to choose what style you like.

I understand what youre saying, but theres other reasons why i said what i said.

For one, if James was... nicer (he seems nice till he pushes his tuning service in your thread) i would have more respect for him.

ive had so many little quarrels with him for doing dumb **** like that in my and other people's threads, and i use the term nutswinger because when i try to explain myself here comes all his supporters having to put in their .02 that i didnt want.

thankfully he has been getting along with everyone lately (most notably zzp, never thought id see that)

Its all about experiences...honestly these forums dont necessarily tell the tale of a person how they are all the time .....i visited james... I have met alot Nice guys since I start modding my cars in the buiness and yeah people are cool but at the end of the day its just business which is ok cause in reality that what it is. James.. this guy treated me like a bro...I went out there he retuned me, pretty much installed my TWM shifter...I didnt pay a dime...he was like he just want to help people..I was like man this is crazy...we pm but he didnt know me like that...I bought him lunch cause that was the least I could do....It got late I didnt have a hotel, he offered to let me crash at his place with him and his family...I was like dang thats cool as ****...didnt expect it .... but I didnt want to intrude. But that fact he offered blew me away. I met his wife, his kid. They bought me dinner. He truly looked out for me. Thats why I stand behind this guy..not just because his tune is working out for me but because he treated me not like a customer but like a good friend. That said alot about his character to me. Most behind on their computer are outside looking in have they outlook on him being this and that but they dont truly know

I also have problems letting others work on my car so I understand your apprehension. Too many times bad things happen after someone says trust me. My solution has been spending time on the hptuners forum learning as much as I can about tuning. I don't expect to become an expert from just reading so while I plan to buy my own copy of hptuners I will likely try to find a local mentor or even pay someone to do the tune.
While this is more expensive than just paying someone to just do a tune it gives me the ability to understand what the tuner is doing as well as the option of detuning for winter or tuning for future mods.
If you don't want to spend the money to buy hptuners at least spend the time learning about tuning so you can understand what the tuner is doing and know whether they are blowin smoke up your ass.
this is great-- thank you.

I think perhaps I misunderstand how a remote tune works- don't I have to have HP Tuners (the cable) in order to log? and then I record the log, email it, the tuner modifies it, emails it back, I load it?

I do plan to have my own HP Tuners, and your advice about spending time in the HPT forum is much appreciated.

I guess in the end, my question changes then-- Are there tuners out there who are willing to teach/coach as they and the customer work through the tune together?

Yeah, this is where I learned most of my stuff along with guidance from Term, CCSS3, Gremlin, etc. Even Matt from ZZP gave me a little info.

LNF Guide Videos - HP Tuners Bulletin Board

I know this is LNF stuff, but its a start. I bet there's a LSJ guide somewhere on there.

Yeah he always did explain what he's doing and even if he didn't he would answer questions. Whether you understand or not well that's up to you.

James did spend like 2 hours on the phone going through everything with me and I kid you not I ignored half of it because it was over my head. He was explaining it to me and I was playing a video game towards the end. I just was like I'm not gonna get it, but didn't wanna stop him ~ of course I'm exaggerating but still.

But as for the detonation and rings popping. Shitty gas and some WOT...doesn't take long. Especially if the car was being ripped on in "non-ideal" times/gears/rpms.
it takes some hard core detonation to do what you see in the short amount of time it ran after he had it tuned

runaway detonation with a turbo is exactly what the two words say. Most people dont understand that. Many tuners dont have a clue, and the few who do still tend to be dancing in the dark with the cause and effect of what they do. With the tools they have. Tuning a car they do not own. Pushing the limits ( that they may not even know they are approaching) with the willing customer encouraging them. not comprehending the downsides to their enthusiasm.

Good thread from Mr Belevedere, and no need to point fingers, it is up the individual. Where I come from , if you drive a turbo, GMS1 is all u need and a no brainer. U cant put down more torque than that with a front driver really. GMS1 has 100,000 mile durability.

As this is an LSJ section, i can also point out that running anything more than GMs2 for an LSJ requires retuning for weather and fuel, and not to do that is going to blow up your equipment, especially with the rvp of winter gas (which is now) up here in the northland.

i, unlike the other "tooners" here, i can openly admit when i **** up. i know my limits. i know what i can and can't do. i, unlike others, do not make huge claims and risk a motor to make that. the claims and numbers i make with vehicles are repeatable.

so, think about it next time. you want to make 400hp to the tire, but at what cost, and can you fix it.

Owner of car said " I want a aggressive tune" and I did give him the speech. So he said little to no ramp, and a good amount of boost. And I have him 15* with a 12.5afr. From my standpoint he was the one that did this. How do I know? He calls me up and says James I romped on it to often and gunned in in 5th gear. And I have his friends to back this up as well along with texts. Now if I do what a "customer wants" that's is not my fault. However long it last depends on the owner and there driving habits. I give the speech of " if I do this try to be respectful to the car, don't always romp and blah blah blah.. If the owner doesn't listen it's on them. I showed the logs 0kr, I did everything on my side to show proof it was ok. Now is there factors I could have done to prevent this? Yes like give a slower ramp less timing and etc! But this wouldn't be listening to the customer. I get I should only go so far. But it is not my car... Doing pull after pull after pull creates heat/detonation/ etc. so what's expected? Unlike a Lsj the lnf doesn't have the low octane maps.i do have the adders still in but to remove timing.

I'm not gonna argue the fact cuz I have them all.. Pointing fingers, accusing, or whatever else may do. I'm not gonna be childish about it... It's totally idiotic to point fingers... I mean people blow on stock tunes, gmatage1, etc.. Oh but wait its the tune right? No it's the driver and there habits of mistreatment. If a car blew up because of my tune is admit I caused it. But in the aspects of what I go through to prove its fine and is what there needs are I "on my end" gave the end user "owner of vehicle what they asked for".. Say what you want, one sides views are one sides views I can't change that..

That is the best way to go about it. IMO. To me, a car that is tuned to put down pretty good power and can maintain excellent reliability is far more impressive than a ticking time bomb of a car going for big numbers at any cost

So it wasn't an intense tune? I Still have yet to see one of those 'Intense tune blew up my engine' threads like people kept telling me would happen.

I'm tuned by Turbo Tim from ZZP right now though.

YOU have to say when it's enough. this is two cars that are publicly known under your hands that have blown up. YOU have to make the judgement call. YOU control the out come of the car. YOU set the playing field for the life of the motor. not the driver.

"its what the customer wants". no, it's not. you have to draw the line. i get it, things happen out of the control of others. blaming the data logger for not showing "kr" is horse ****. pull a spark plug and look at it.

i get it, **** happens. this however, was flat out destruction.

If the owner demanded a aggressive tune even after james warned him thats the owners fault, not james.
