sc whine with intake
sc whine with intake
so i just switched to the 2.0 from the 2.4... and i know this is a stupid question... but if you put a cai on the ss/sc, (injen possibly) how does it sound? and does it drown out the sc whine, or increase it?
I just had a question, I'm getting a cai in a couple weeks, have any of you guys started your cars with no intake at all (just the throttle body)? Will it even start? It will not suck in a bunch of junk if you do. Trust me, I drove my old truck for 4 months with no air filter and it was fine.

if the car starts at all it will only run for a couple seconds and it will run like gabage. There is one sensor in you intake that if there is no input your car has no idea what is going on so it wont be able to calculate how much fuel to put in.

The L67 runs fine with the IAT unplugged and/or no filter or anything on the throttle body... I don't see why the LSJ wouldn't behave similarly. There is a "default" setting for when the IAT is unplugged (in case of failure). In the case of the L67 it acts like it is 32 degrees (0 celcius) and just treats it like that is the case (sometimes causing you to run richer... tuning trick in some cases when you're running lean). The MAF screen on the L67 is on the front of the throttle body, so the air still goes through the MAF screen also.
Hmm. So is the MAF in the LSJ closer than the throttle body to the air filter? That's weird. Yeah, if that's the case, it won't run good just sucking air through the TB
In the L67 the only thing between the TB and filter is the IAT plug, which the car runs fine without.

WOW now thats a not so good of a thought?
I can't see why you would want to run non filtered air into your motor as I can see it on an old truck with 100,000 miles on it if you never had the breather but to deliberatly do it would be just nuts in my opinion
but to each his ownI'm not sure how long you have had your car but for ***** & giggles just take a look at your air filter & see how clean it is or I should say how clean it isn't & imagin if all that dirt was in your motor now. I say this becuse I just put a CAI on mine & i was suprized on how dirty my stock filter was & I've only had the car for 3 months
damn! i was just askin if anyone had done it! i wasn't saying run it with no filter for a long time, I was just saying when you have your old intake off before you put your new one on just start it up to see what it sounds like! And my "old" truck is a '73 GMC, thats why I said old. The drivetrain has less then 5000 miles on it. Its got new engine, new racing tranny, driveshaft, rearend, and wheels and tires, new suspention, and soon new brakes. I simply didn't have an air filter and all my money was going to gas (6 mpg on 91 octane, thats what you get when your carbureted). I finally got an air filter I just changed the oil after I got it and it was fine.
P.S. cashstacker, I'm getting the k&n typhoon intake, is that a good one or should I get the injen?

THe k&n and injen are both good. With the Injen intake you are most likely going to have a fitment issue. THey said they were going to fix that but I'm not sure if they ever did? I believe K&N dosn't have fitment issues but numerous people have reported cels as a result of installing it. One last thing, I believe the piping on the injen is bigger than that of the K&N.
If any of this is wrong feel free to correct me.

k&n it is! thanks for the advice, I'm too lazy to move brakets and stuff. with old cars you just hit it with a hammer until it fits, im almost positive you can't do that now. so unless the injen adds more power im goin with the k&n.
