shorty header or long tube

I'm just wondering if I will notice much of a difference with a long tube header over a shorty header. I already have a catless downpipe with a gmpp maifold.but I want to switch to a true header. So would a long tube be worth it or should I get a shorty header with my catless downpipe?

Long tube helps with power down low, it also helps on the high end but not as much.

Shorty might hurt your power down low, but will gain more (not by much) up top.

Choose long tube.

other way around there cheif.

long= power at higher rpm

short= power at lower rpm

i would say what u have now is a great setup cause realy if u go with a long tube it will only be efective at like 6k rpm.

Did you notice any power difference at all with the GMPP manifold over stock?

No I didn't notice anything over the stock manifold but at the time I installed it I still had the stock downpipe and stock catback.

think of it like an intake manifold...short runners work great at high rpm, long runners work great down low rpm

yes that is true because there is a vacuum involved ( in most cases) and u have pressure in the exhaust but.......... and exhaust manifold is different. its all about the flow. with the long tube the exhaust gases build up more speed before they get to the collector witch will create a better savaging effect at higher rpm.

ok lets just say ur right. and long tube made better power at low to mid-range..... when any car manufacturer is designing a new car they do worry about power believe it or not, but not high rpm, high hp, track only power, they want a low end power band for everyday driving stop and go, they don't want to u to have to hit 5k rpm to make power cause then the life span is decreased. y do they put a short manifold on the car?????

don't worry about 80% of "car guys" don't understand flow and neither did i till i went to school and spent 2 months learning how to make cars go fast.

im not trying to start anything I'm trying to show u whats right, cause i know the internet can be deceiving

correct sir !! when i put a long tube header on my old cavalier i lost low end power, but gained a good amount of top end ....

Long tube is awesome for top end power! Shorty is good for torque.
