Well from what Josh said, the ported head will just allow me to get the gains I want without having to pulley down as much putting more strain on the motor.
And wont push the fuel system as hard.
And wont push the fuel system as hard.

If you can do cams I would, if not still do the springs and rev it out. Even if your power starts dropping off a little reving out to 7800 or whatever you plan to rev to you will still be making more power up there than you would be shifting gears and being at say 5000 rpms. It will also bring you into a better spot in the powerband when you shift to the next gear.
FWIW on stock cams my power was still climbing at 7600 rpms when I cut it off. Looked like it was about leveling off up there. My head flows well though.
