Okay I normally try to stay far away from the stupid will my car take X car.

BUT. a friend of mine just picked up a 2010 Dodge challenger R/T auto tranny. i know it's 375hp ton's more power than my little Cobalt SS SC will ever make.

However he's been giving me a lot of crap lately all in fun mostly but I was wondering after a get my OTTP stage two and heat exchanger installed how bad will i lose. I know i'll lose but by how much? hoping he won't put bus lengths on me. Trying to decide if i want to get a CAI and a high flow muffler to stack on top of the stage 2. my spending limit right now is 1000 bucks.

I'm hoping the Challenger's Weight and Auto Tranny might give me a little wiggle room.

Challanger is a sweet car by the way i have to admit i'm a bit jealous but I want a Camaro SS more.

Thanks for the info guys.

Ya know I don't this it will too bad a beating. he has more weight, RWD, automatic. The question is the 375 hp at the flywheel or the wheels. You have lighter weight, FWd (better traction), Manual, LSD, even better aerdynamics (not that you will hit fast enough speeds for that to factor in). It might be closer then you think dude. Good luck!

Bluelightning 06-29-2010 10:21 AM

I agree^^^. IMO if you want a better chance spend you're money on more cooling mods like meth and a dual pass. It will do alot more for you than a CAI and a muffler. Just drop in a K&N filter.

BLAZIN07SS 06-29-2010 10:23 AM

its going to be funny when you win. they are slow as balls from a roll. my bolt on gm stage 2 car stayed about 1/2 car ahead of an srt8 one. then custom tuned on spray was absolute murder.

Tarheel62592 06-29-2010 10:31 AM

Yea, dude i was neck to neck with an evo 8 the other day, youll be fine

I love beating up on V8's. And love the look their face after you beat them with you're little 4 cylinder :D

fwd has better traction??
what?
:redx:

BlackRaptor 06-29-2010 10:36 AM

Wow thanks guys now i'm looking forward to getting my Stage two and cooling done and line up with him. We'll go 1/4 mile from a dig. My Cobalt has LSD so I've got good traction. 375hp is flywheel hp so figure a 20% loss to the wheels. car weights in at 4132lb.

So the intake and muffler are pretty free flowing and not as limiting as the cooling capabilities are?

Like i said the more cooling mods the better. With long pulls your IAT2's will rise quickly. So keep em down and you're car will pull hard on top

Just my own opinion from my experience, not saying it as a fact.

lol thats why i like my car, the mustang guys hate me!

i have the OTTP stage 2 kit and i ordered the heat exchanger with it too but i havent installed it yet. i have plans of getting the dual bypass plate as well, so with the dual bypass and the heat exchanger will tha make a big difference over running without it other then the car running a bit cooler? i know the cooler the car the better it runs, im just asking if its a noticalbe change.

sorry to thread jack, good luck with the R/T!

yellow dragon 06-29-2010 10:45 AM

let us know how it goes!

BlackRaptor 06-29-2010 10:46 AM

The OTTP heat exchanger is a direct bolt on replacement for the stock one right? no bracket modding needed?

Tarheel62592 06-29-2010 10:48 AM

You can replace the stock or run both and you shouldnt need brackets. I think it comes with some welded on

the stock heat exchanger is sandwiched in between the radiator and ac condenser. your new heat exchanger will sit in front of the ac condenser. you need to drill two holes in the crash beam to mount the HE

If you know how to drive you can win.

You may not notice it by the seat of you're pants but you will definatly notice it when you are racing someone and start winding out you're car. The hotter the intake temps the more timing the car pulls to keep from any engine damage which equals less hp

Jazer 06-29-2010 12:38 PM

More power doesn't mean faster. If you are measuring at the crank, you have to consider certain cars take more drivetrain loss over others, which plays a big part... but the big thing to consider is the power to weight ratio.

In it's prime, back when it was actually fast, my SS pulled with some ease on a C5 Z06 and a Viper GTS... You'd be surprised what they can do. They're light & nimble compareds to a bigger bulkier car with twice the cylinders.

Guys with V8s think they are the big dogs on the road, but usually end up shocked by what a boosted 4 cylinder can be capable of.

What mod's were your running to pull on Z06's and viper's?

This was back when the car was my xBF's... it had a short ram intake, 2.7" pulley, injectors/tune, catless dp, fidanza 7# flywheel & stage 4 clutch. I will say the car was a little bit of a freak, the X did a good job tuning her, but even stock, my car is still on the fastest stock runs list here in the racing section with a 14.2.

It ran a 13.6 in the 1/4 mile before the clutch/flywheel were installed with a junk stock clutch that slipped every chance it got. Shit, before the car was modded I ran my 14.4 stock run babying a spinning clutch, lol.

I should also add those were also highway pulls when he played with the Z06 & GTS.

rallycobalt06 06-29-2010 02:06 PM

from a dig.... the 2010 Challenger R/T (auto) will pull you out of the whole BUT once you stop spinning you'll start to reel him in.

from a 40 roll.... you'll get a nice jump on him and start to pull away.

good luck and start practicing your launch :twothumbs

oh and order some OTTP rotated tranny mounts while you're at it. they are awesome! :guns:

Go for it, I could care less. I wasn't even the one driving but I watched it happen from the pass seat. For one a C6 Z06 is a different animal than the C5s.. and the early 2000s Viper GTS aren't that special either, other than the status symbol, being a viper

The car is back to stock after the rebuild, other than high compression pistons, she's slow now but it used to be fun as hell to drive.
