K&N Filter E-1009 ? Fitment ?

I see the K&N filter # E-1009 listed a couple of places for the Redline and CSS.

I noticed it is listed as " Universal " on K&N's website also. So how does it attach/work? I haven't taken my airbox apart as of yet.

Does it attach to a tube inside the airbox?

Here are my pictures from exploring the air intake/cleaner setup.

I would imagine it goes inside the big air tub (as I like to call it)

I have the K&N filter installed on my SS and IT MAKES THE SUPERCHARGER WINE!! I noticed a slight performance gain as well, most definitely worth the money until a full intake system is available.

Yes it does go in there, you should also Cut hole pattern along the bottom of the cover before screwing it back in with the filter to increase airflow. Total install time was approx 25-30 mins. Jack the car up, take the wheel off, take the fenderwall off, then it's pretty self explanitory from there.

It really does help the supercharger noise. Makes the car alot funner to drive.

Did you use the E-1009?

Would like to do the same.

wait for the K&N CAI that is comming. They have been getting some good numbers back on the Redlines. K&N emailed me saying they were making a CAI for the SS.

No date?

Seems like 20 bucks and a half hour is worth doing if I
have to wait 2 more months to get the CAI, don't you think?

I have the itch, I just can't wait

Is the complete K&N really going to provide much more power though? The intake really doesn't look that restrictive from the pictures. Are there baffles hidden in the air box?

Good question CodySS I didn't get that far myself. However I have seen a picture of one on the a redline forum and it didn't look like there was any baffles. Of course the picture I was was one choped up.

Like LSD I think alot of people spend money based on hype before they really have full understanding of it's benifits.

Some K&N kits do help because they replace a very small/restrictive intake. But the SS intake really doesn't appear to be to bad. The actual intake is vertical so it won't ever suck up water and will keep the filter cleaner longer. Most of the time you want a intake that flows well but retains high velocity, since that the SS is supercharged maybe this wont matter as much?

Wow I just tried fitting the E-1009. Needless to say I will be waiting for a direct fit or FIPK.

This filter is way to big.

I cut the airbox completely off, just leaving the piece with the Sensor/Upper Bracket.

So basically it now looks like any other aftermarket CAI, with a 100%exposed K&N filter (E-1009).

THIS THING WHINES LIKE A BITCH NOW!!! 50x LOUDER!!!

Before I could barely, barely hear it. Now it sounds incredible!

Makes the car SO much more fun to drive, and it really turns heads now.

I should've took pics of the filter installed, but I forgot. Best I can do, is show you guys whats left of my airbox.

Have a great holiday everyone!

I guess since I'd need a whole NEW airbox, if I was gonna take it in for warranty. I could part with it.

Make an offer, send it to turboeco@msn.com
Paypal to the same.

The E-1009 will not directly fit the Cobalt SS airbox.

We have a pattern though, and will cut the pattern for you in the E-1009 before we ship the air filter out to you. That way you dont have to do any modifiying of the filter, etc. We have one in our project car and have already sold quite a few with excellent results.

The car is now peppier, and we gained about 2 hp and 2 lbs of torque across the boards. Someplaces in the dyno showed 3 hp/3 tq as well.

We keep them in stock, they are listed at $54.99 on our website, however we have lowered the price to $49.99 plus $6 shipping in our computer system. The new pricing will be updated in a day or two on our website.

If you all would like to get one fast, and dont want to worry about modifying them yourselves, give us a call toll free. We will ship one to you the same day you order it !

I just put a K&N in last night and I ground off the nub on the bottom of the airbox and the filter fits nice and flat and everything seems to be fine...I also drilled a hole in the lip on the air box right in the front of the box so when it is attached and under the fender well you can tighten the clamp...I'll try to post some pics...I dont have a camera but i'll try to borrow my neighbors

If K&N wouldn't have been such cheap asses they would have made a direct fit filter to start with. The Cobalt SS uses the same filter as the Trailblazer and Envoy, they should've just made it right the first time.

K&N is not a "cheap ass". The Cobalt was just released, and GM just like usual made a different component airbox than the Redline. So, instead of using the same filter, because of GM's change K&N has to develop a filter JUST for the Cobalt. It will be out in a few months.

And I think what you meant to say, is that the Redline Ion uses the same filter as the Trailblazer and Envoy. The modified Redline Ion intake filter we sell fits the Cobalt SS perfectly though, and its selling well. Until the new filter comes out, its a great filter and we highly recommend it for a low buck modification to your car.
