SS/SC Dyno Results

I got my car dyno'd today at a local shop. I had two pulls done with A/F ratio.

The first pull was 3rd gear and the second pull was 4th gear. The pull in 4th gear was a little lower than the 3rd gear pull....

Here is the dyno sheet.

I also talked with Mike at the shop who I might be working with to get a header back exhaust system. We also talked about maybe a smaller pulley and piggy back fuel mgt system, but one step at a time :)

Your dyno sheet is invisible!

stic5 05-31-2005 04:44 PM

Your 4th gear pull max hp was 203, but it's not listed for your 3rd gear pull. What was it? It looks like about 215 on the graph.

zinner 05-31-2005 04:53 PM

Stupid scanner. I will rescan and get the whole paper.

*EDIT*

Ok should be all fixed.

212 HP was my Max HP on the 3rd gear pull.

Yeah totally stock.

JapEatr 05-31-2005 10:59 PM

zinner that is awesome man 212 that means any mods will be putting your times in the high 13s

wesmanw02 05-31-2005 11:14 PM

Very nice numbers. Seems that most owners are pulling between 205-215HP and 180-200ft/lbs of torque. Impressive to say the least, especially considering the stock rating of 205 at the crank ;)

Of course over on the JBO, anything that anyone posts about Cobalts always ends in a flame war. Somebody posted dyno numbers similar to yours, and this jackass know-it-all named GoodwrenchGT responded claiming that Dyno's aren't at all accurate and their HP numbers can't be trusted :wtf:

So much for that "conspiracy theory"

Go Zinner Go!!!!!!

thats sweet 212 thats awsome, hate the tq number those should have been 220tq or more. damn chevy messed up, always produced higher tq numbered cars but now they put higher hp. damn. oh well. still awsome none the less.

z24sport 06-01-2005 01:10 AM

Nice numbers man :cssNET:

Looks like I better get some more things for my car if I wanna catch an SS

zinner 06-01-2005 02:35 PM

I was looking at the autotap data for my 4th gear pull and it was topped out at 140 mph in 4th gear at the red line. So 5th gear is there to get me my extra 7 mph ? Seems a bit odd.

5th gear must just be for gas milage? I dunno...

theBLUEone 06-01-2005 10:06 PM

NICE!!! Wait till performance parts start becoming available, and open these babies UP!!! LOL

Remember, it's drag-limited. So yeah, 5th gear is just overdrive and isn't going to add much. I just wonder how fast it could go without that wing on the back...

at 140mph that wing probably helps to keep traction, even if its on the rear wheels. Every little bit helps :)

White_Zzzzz 06-01-2005 11:48 PM

Nice numbers!

Glad to see you dyno'ed in 4th unlike the other guy.

stic5 06-02-2005 12:04 AM

Could someone explain to me the difference in doing a dyno in 3rd and 4th gear? Is one supposed to be more accurate or standardized than the other? Who ever really gets on the gas hard in 4th gear anyway?

Ever been in fourth gear doing about 80 or so KM/H and want to pass somebody?

zinner 06-02-2005 12:11 AM

Well when you dyno you want a perfect 1:1 gear ratio. Now that isn't going to happen on all cars and the dyno can account for that mathmatically but it's not as good as true 1:1.

The SS/SC transmission is 1.18:1 in 3rd and 0.89:1 in 4th. So your kinda on either side of 1:1. I did both so we could all see how it works out. The other dyno on the board from mondern performance is 3rd gear only. Some people feel that 3rd gear gives an optimistic number for horsepower and 4th would be a better accounting of the engine power (mostly because it's very close 1:1 in other cars ie. 4th is 0.98:1 on the getrag 5 spd)

I think it's safe to say that the actual horsepower sits between 203 and 212 HP on my car.

mchat 06-02-2005 01:02 AM

Also (in my experience) 3rd gear pulls tend to be smoother than 4th gear pulls... which makes tuning a little easier.

Datwhitecavy 06-03-2005 11:46 AM

Very nice numbers man.. Congrats.

even still if we are all dynoing the same "range" of HP, theres got to be truth to it. Even this goodwrenchGT has to believe it. There is no possible way that all dynos are going to be out that much from each other.

Im dynoing on the 11th, i'll post mine

Frenstall 06-03-2005 08:22 PM

One more Q. Is that on regular or premium gas?

RpSS4844 06-03-2005 08:53 PM

i dynoed at dynolab in marieta GA on a dynojet dyno. I did a 4th gear pul and 232 whp and 197wtq. I tried to post the graph, but it says the file is too large.. BTW those numbers ARE CORRECTED!!!!! the outside air temp was 81 and only had one big fan in front of the car. I did let it set for an hour with ice bags on the S/C and the top and side of the engine.
