Stage 2 vs Stage 3 cooling mods

Okay so I know the question has been begged many times, but I just wanted to get your opinions on my personal setup. If I go with a 3.0 inch pulley and 42# injectors and 1 step colder plugs with a stage 2 tune, will I need cooling mods? How about the same setup with a GM stage 3 tune? I've never taken my car to a track but I might at one point or another, and I don't street race, save for the occasional 2 in the morning empty highway battles that my buddies and I have. I will eventually get some type of cooling mod, but I just wanted to know which path would be safer if I won't get these cooling mods for at least a few months.

It'd be safe to at least have a heat exchanger, i have a 2.9, 60's, 1 step colder plugs and a zzp stage 3 tune. Only cooling mod i have is a heat exchanger.. but make sure your IC pump is working before you put any of the mods on though, found out mine wasnt working so i replaced it the same time with everything else

Well I'm almost sure that my ic pump works, the last time I checked it was. PLUS my supercharger is cool to the touch, after a heavy run it gets only a little warm, but not to the point where I can't put my hand on it and keep it there comfortably. I definitely plan on getting a zzp s3 h/e. So I should be good with a stage 3 tune and a heat exchanger then?

riceburner 02-06-2013 01:27 AM

Yeh atleast a h/e would b good for something u dont romp on too often. The more the merrier though, remember cold boost is good boost. In the middle of the summer doing multiple pulls u might feel the difference that the hot boost robs ur power. So id also recommend a dual pass.

Vander Nars 02-06-2013 02:16 AM

Consider opt b also for bleeding ur system stock h/e is a bitch to bleed.

mrbelvedere 02-06-2013 09:03 AM

heat exchanger and option b are the best bang for the buck next time search op this subject has been covered plenty

To have an optimal GMR Stage 3 setup you should run the dual pass that comes with the kit, along with Opt. B.

A heat exchanger helps to.

Grab an interceptor gauge, and log IAT2's. You will see how cooling mods help.

Doesnt matter if your supercharger is cool to the touch after a pull....

Your intake air temps are what matters.... They are after the blower.

E85 is a good cooling mod too and gives you more power. but you need bigger injectors to run it

if your blower is cool to the touch after a hard pull your either high as fuck don't have good feelings in your hands or letting the car cool off or you have other problems

Ah okay thanks for clearing that up for me, I'm definitely putting an interceptor on my list. But will I be okay for the next couple months without any cooling mods granted I don't romp on my car?

I mean maybe the way I define hard pull isn't how you define it :P Plus I check it a couple minutes after the run, usually when I arrive at my destination.

You will be ok.

Very blunt lol, but you are honest, and I can respect that.

jHarris8822 02-06-2013 09:38 PM

better to have cooling mods and not have to worry about anything bad happening

Nothing bad will happen to him....

He just won't make optimal power.

As long as he doesn't beat on the car until the cooling mods, he will be a.ok.

Mrb can be blunt, but he is very knowledgeable & a good guy. He has helped me many times, and will always take the time to make sure everything is ok. You just need to prove you took the time to research.

Some people can't handle the honest truth

cooling mods such as a dual pass does nothing more then help recovery times it if you want better temp control add volume to the system and an option b

Lol true true, I would rather somebody tell me exactly what I'm doing wrong than to "be nice" and not point out the mistakes I'm making. But again, thanks man, you and Mr. B :)
