Stock exhaust & down pipe

Hey guys, I have a couple of ?'s,is the stock exhaust size 2.5,and if i wanted to get a down pipe without a cat, would i get the same performance if i just cut the cat off the factory pipe and welded a straight pipe in it's place opposed to just buying one from cobalt-addiction or some other company?

Yes and no . Youd get most of the power doing that , but aftermarket would still give a couple more hp/tq . Most of the factory down pipe is 2 3/4 before and after the cat . Then it necks down to 2.5 where it goes into the factory exhaust . The one bad thing with the stock DP just after the flange ( which is oddly 3" ) it immediatly necks down to 2" going into the flex pipe section . Couple that , with all the indents and theres where u lose a couple HP .

The stock cat-back is 2.5 pipe before the resonator , and after the resonator up until just before the rear axle . Then it necks down to 2.25 the rest of the way .
