Car will be back on the road this weekend. Advise hooked me up with a tranny case and LSD so I rebuilt trans and replaced a couple syncros. Actually took the car for a drive 2 weeks ago to find that the water pump leaked so replaced with a new pump tonight and will finish the job Saturday. Thank god for the water pump tool and not having to remove the timing chain or mess with the timing.

As promised this beast is back on the road and glad I replaced the water pump and thermostat together. The original water pump failure was likely caused by the failure of the thermostat sticking, when I took it apart the spring was jacked up and not allowing it to open. BTW, thermostat at the local Advance Auto is expensive.. Over $20..
Took the car for a spin and having what I suspect to be a fueling problem.
1st problem is I am having to jump the fuel pump relay to get the car running, not sure why car is not sending the signal to relay.
2nd problem is on occasion the fuel is not primed completely on start and takes about 2~3 times of turning over before the fuel is ready and will backfire between starts.
3rd problem is while driving the car bucks and sputters just over 2K rpms.
I am suspecting either the fuel filter, pump or bad gas. Car did sit for almost year. I added some fuel treatment and let the car idle for 40min and will take the car for a spin in the morning. Also plan on checking the fuel pressure at the rail but could not find the right fitting for my fuel pressure tester so looks like I will be heading to the auto store tomorrow.

Finally got around to pulling the error codes and have 3 errors (see below) Think I will need to check the gap on the plugs and swap around to try to figure out what is going on.
Any thoughts?
P0230 (fuel pump primary circuit)
P0300 (random multiple cylinder misfire)
P0017 ( crankshaft position bank 1 sensor b)

Update: turns out the P0017 was the cam position sensor notch was off the 4 o'clock mark and was more at the 5 o'clock position so fixed that and code went away.
P0230 was related to the fuel pump relay being in the wrong location.
So cleared all codes but still get the random misfire under acceleration and P0300. Car has a good idle and solid vacuum so don't think it is a vacuum leak. I have swapped the plugs and tried NGK's and AC Delcos @ .0040 and still getting the misfire.
Car still has about 1 gallon of the old gas remaining and I will be putting 5 gallons of 93 octane in tomorrow.
Will keep you posted

u might need to have it tuned. zzps caned files arnt the best. they simply might have to much timing in it for the mid range. i knoticed i had to pull alot of timing with my 2.4

Gapped the NGK's at .0030'ish and all fault codes cleared, car pulls strong under medium throttle and higher RMP's with no issues. I have to keep reminding myself about the clutch and engine still within the "break-in" period so only giving it mild throttle through 2nd and 3rd gear.
Supercharger sounds like a jet, love the spooling sound and glad I polished my internals for the incoming air.
There is a slight exhaust leak where I used a reducer from the 3" ZZP downpipe to 2.5" cat back but nothing that a little welding wont fix.

Yea I agree, I am more worried of the lightened flywheel and clutch during the "break-in"getting paired up to each other. Engine will be ready for the power way before the clutch considering I have close to 30hr of start and idle time while burning out the old gas from the car sitting almost a year for the build.
Now the sad part is I will have to be selling this car within a couple of weeks
If you remember my post back in May about the wife being pregnant, well lets just say the baby arrived and the cobalt does not make the best family car or grocery getter. Really not wanting to do this with the amount of labor and love that went into the build but that life.
Now the sad part is I will have to be selling this car within a couple of weeks
