Swapping out SLP Resonator for something quieter!
First, I did a search for this and didn't find anything :)
Basically, just bought a Used 2005 Cobalt SS/SC which lready has a stage 3 ZZP kit installed I figured out. Love the car but the exhaust is RIDICULOUSLY loud. I love loud v8s, but this thing sounds awful. It has an SLP catback and I saw the resonator on it. Has anyone swapped this out for a much quieter muffler/resonator? What is the quietest resonator/muffler available for these cars? I have seen magnaflow thrown around on a couple threads. Thanks! (and excuse my lack of knowledge on these cars thus far). |
Check the downpipe that is installed on it. I'd you are catless changing the resonator will help but it will still be loud until you change that as well.

Yeah, it's hard to tell if it's catted or not since the car sits so low but I will check it out.
Edit: It is catted. So a muffler/resonator to replace the SLP Bullet Style muffler would be what I want to swap. |
ZZP resonator. Won't find a better working one.

next time post questions like this in the general section
you would be better off swapping out the exhaust for a zzp 2.5 unit |
x2 on the ZZP resonator... its huge  and should quiet your setup quite a bit.
|
What about Magnaflow? I am looking for something easy to swap in for the straight SLP muffler. Are they quieter? I also looked into a Walker Quiet Flow as well. Vids on YouTube are kinda hard to tell how loud/quiet they are.
|
So, I decided to get a magnaflow muffler to swap out and a ZZP Resonator. Hopefully this thing will be quieter lol I hate the sound of the car's exhaust but everything else I love.

I run a ZZP resonator with Walker Quiet Flow muffler. My exhaust is super quiet.

That resonator in itself will make a huge difference. Just start with that IMO.
