Is there a dual exhaust for the Cobalt?

The wife is bent on getting a dual exhaust for the car. I don't know of one out there. She wants it so it will go good with her "body kit" which will be bought with gold from leprechauns as far as I am concerned. I told her to get a dual for the Cobalt, you will have to get it custom made. I'd love to get the GMPP Performance esp since CED is having a kick ass sale!

In my opinion, I think a dual exhaust 4 cyl looks kind of wrong...

Anyone know of a dual exhaust out there? What are your thoughts on dual exhaust on the Cobalt?

I dont know of any out there, and i agree it is ewww on a 4 banger. I would just look at getting a splitter on the end after the axle and running it out both sides of the back, gonna have to go to a shop though.

Thats what I was thinking.....I wonder if I could do that with the GMPP...

It won't be a true dual exhaust. I have seen a pic with a cobalt, can't remember where I saw it, but it looked cool. Not a HP mod, but for looks, if it was done right, would look good.

Red06LS Jan 24, 2007 11:32 PM

Tell her to to get an 8cyl then talk about duel exhaust. ^But yea like he said you could have a shop do it for the looks.

Dead Zen Jan 24, 2007 11:32 PM

I was gonna suggest that but for the cost of the GMPP you could prolly get a custom exhaust for the same. might not sound as good though :thumbsdow

Love that sound

Right, it won't be a true one...I wonder how she plans on doing it....maybe I can get her to buy off on splitting the GMPP and just buy two GM angled tips...

Thats my concern...I don't want it too loud...moving to Virginia, and the cops are strict as hell out there...I told her don't be surprised if you get pulled over and they make you pull the tint off...

This reminds me of the "my friend wets the bed, what should he do?" story.

But anyways...There is no dual exhaust kit out there, if you're hell bent on doing it, you can either have a stainless exhaust shop weld one up, or you can fake one with a dummy tip. Either way, you're just adding weight to the car.

Don't care about weight...mine will never drag or anything like that...you should see all the shit she has in the trunk!

http://www.rksport.com/images/parts/12011002_2.jpgRK Sport has one, but don't know if it is just for the 2.2 but it is 2.25 which is the same piping diameter as some of the other kits for the SS/SC

marerick007 Jan 24, 2007 11:52 PM

^^^^Yep, thats the bumper kit I like...

Matty Jan 24, 2007 11:55 PM

I think that looks good. No power gain but it looks cool. :twothumbs

M-Dub Jan 24, 2007 11:57 PM

You might have better luck just buying two magnaflow canister mufflers like that and having it custom done in 2.5" piping though! Cause that's like $900.00 or something silly like that! But I think it looks good, man its your preference but I would do a custom dual exhaust kit instead of buying one you'll save money and have the correct diameter piping!

Dude Matty, I almost used that name "MATTY" that is what all my friends and family call me! And we have the same color car... what a weird coincedence!

Well guys, TNT has been toying around with a TRUE Dual Exhaust kit for the car. We are going to put up a prototype soon to see what gains you get over stock. I'll keep you all updated when the time comes.

M-Dub Jan 25, 2007 12:08 AM

Of course!!!

marerick007 Jan 25, 2007 12:10 AM

Well, here's my thought for right now...no way am I going to pay that much for an exhaust...if she wants it she can pay for it...

I'd like to get the GMPP Performance and when and if that time ever does come, I can just take it off and sell it...I'm sure someone will buy it for like 200 or so...

You can't really have a true dual exhaust on a 4 cylinder engine. Unless you are making some kind of custom dual exit manifold which would be kindda weird.

After the cat and O2 sensors, you could really do whatever you wanted as far as spliting the pipes up.

I was wondering the same thing...

joes407 Jan 25, 2007 08:21 AM

just get the gm performance exhaust you wont be disappointed. i got it on sale at CED around xmas and it has made the car sound awesome and perform way better. was also the easiest bolt on kit ever in my opinion. it is a hair shorter than the factory exhaust which i didnt realize until i had it on but if you leave an extra eighth or quarter inch at each coupler i think it would make up for that.

CTCOBALTSSS Jan 25, 2007 08:32 AM

Yeah you can't have true duals but you can fabricate a Y-Pipe in the rear to split to dual mufflers. That's as close as you're getting so yeah dual exhaust is doable. It doesn't sound that great and you realy don't need it. Any full header-back 3" single exhaust would work out better. It will help keep a little more back preassure which we need. It would sound better than dual exhaust too.

Plus you only need 3" single exhaust from about 300whp up. If you have less than that I would recommend a 2.5" header-back single exhaust. :twothumbs

Pyros777 Jan 25, 2007 11:38 AM

Yeah the only way I'd consider a dual exhaust is if they came off a Y splitter instead of an L. With an L shaped split, the exhaust will mostly come out of one opening, which to me at least looks silly especially when its cold out. I havent had a very good look at the underside of the car though, so a Y split may not even be doable.

D4u2s0t Jan 25, 2007 11:46 AM

I didn't read most of the responses, but there is no such thing as a dual exhaust on a 4 banger.. a dual exhaust comes from a V8 that has seperate banks of cylanders... you can have a dual exit, which will have to be custom fabricated, and you will lose some power... if she's diong it purely for aesthetics, she can hang a muffler on the other side

so the exhaust on the srt 4 isnt a true dual exhaust? its just a split?

I don't think it's a split I think it's one muffler mounted sideways with 2 pipes coming out of it going to the rear of the car.

Like this but with a muffler in between not just a straight pipe.
