Timing Chain Tensioner - Quick Fix vs Normal Fix

I plan on replacing my timing chain tensioner soon. I read both the "plug n play" and more complex How To's. I'm just wondering what the success rate is with simply unbolting it adn putting the new one in. I'd rather not take off my valve cover and Zip-Tie my chain in place if I don't have to, but I don't want to mess it up.

using zip ties does nothing to help hold the chain in place the slack is not around the the cam gears it is around the crank gear and that is were it slips
