Tranny maintence

So ive only had the car a few months, but im at 66k so i figured it was a good time to swap out all the fluids. This post is about the tranny fluid i have a ss 5 speed. I work at a car shop so getting the fluids not hard, but i havnt seen anyone on here use this fluid so figured id post it up. This is valvoline vps gl4 syncromesh fluid and is fully rated for our tranny (f32?)

syncromesh fluids are too thin for our transmissing (f35).

it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to run the gm fluid in these transmissions. some people have had some luck with redline, royal purple, etc. i tried both redline and amsoil fluids years back, both worked ok in the summer but once it got cooler outside i would have a hard time getting it into gear cold, and gear clash on the first few shifts. went back to the gm fluid (specifically the gm fluid for the ss/tc) and it was smooth as butter.

Part numbers for the f35 fluid are 88862472 (old) or 19351859 (new). Can usually get it cheaper online than the dealer if either is in stock.

I've just put the redline mt90 in from zzp. I have had zero problems but then again I don't drive it much in the winter

Experts like John Powell always stress to ONLY use OEM fluids in the F35. Nothing else.

I don't doubt that. When I was running factory fluid, in cold weather 5th gear would give a little grind the first time going in and then would be ok until it sat. The same gentleman at zzp performance that recommended my clutch setup stated that the redline mt90 is what they been using in all their builds for years and they have not had issues. My trans is fairly new and I took a chance with the fluid and now 5th gear no longer gives me trouble. The gears seem smoother and I plan on changing the fluid every 30k. I would probably not recommend this fluid for everyone, especially if you have a older trans with a ton of miles. Or if you daily it in extreme weather. In my case it seemed to help but you take a risk whenever you put fluid in that's not factory.

only use OEM GM fluid. I exploded a tranny and partially believe it was from running redline fluid.
