trouble on cold starts

As the title says, my 07 ss has trouble cranking over after it has sat any length of time over about 4 hours. It does start but it takes about 5 seconds worth of cranking for it to turn over, and it sounds like it struggles when it does turn over but it seems to run fine. I havent been driving the car much latley and it has staryed doing it the past few weeks. I checked my battery which is only about 8 months old and is still in good working order. Im not sure what to do next. Also i have been smelling gas.. not from under the hood and cant find a leak.. help please :)

My guess would be a fuel problem, injectors, fuel pump, maybe as little as a fuel filter. Have you ever changed your fuel filter? I ask that because that caused alot of starting a stuttering problems for me.

if you are having no starts on the first crank, but it hits on the second crank, try turning the key on, count to 3, then turn it to start. If it hits then, you are having a fuel pressure issue.

if you are smelling gas when the car is sitting, most likely your fuel pressure issue is due to a crack in the fuel pump housing/ fuel line. It is VERY common on these cars, and was even a recall for some.

Sadly, the common fix is to replace the entire $200 fuel pump assembly with the integrated plastic lines. That sucks, since there's nothing wrong with it other than a little crack.

My solution when this happened to me recently was to break off the line / nipple on the housing flush, tap the block 1/8 pipe, install a hose nipple, bend a new steel line to replace the old plastic one, hose clamp a piece of injection hose to couple. On the filter end, carefully cut the plastic line off the push connect barb. Hose clamps and injection hose. Been working flawlessly a bit over 2000 miles now, and cost me $12 instead of $200

How do you remove the fuel pump on these?

Before you do that....the fuel you smell could be comming from the car NOT starting at first...dont assume that its a fuel issue....check to make sure that you dont have a bad fuse or a weak battery....you could have enough to crank but not enough volts to start.....if like you say that you dont drive it much....extreme heat or cold will affect a battery...most batteries last 3-5 years....I just replaced mine about a month ago..and it was 3 years old...check that...the fuel pump isnt easy to get to...and they are around $200 starting...just my 2 cents...

my battery tester says the battery is good :/ and i was just curious to how hard it was to get the the FP if need be. im gonna be looking for leaks today i suppose

You have to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump

On cold starts mines will start, then slowly sputter (maybe 2 times its actually stalled) after the sputtering it smooths out, car runs fine tho
