Tuners running timing

How much timing are you guys running over stock...im tuning my car and bumped it up 3 degrees more than stock...just wondering what u guys r running...thx in advance..

Also wondering what would cause over boosting...my logs are showing 26 psi (186 kpa) and its red...i know that aint good...

damien 06-20-2009 07:54 PM

As much as possible without knock, then back off 1 degree, maybe 2.

MarqueDo7BabyBalt 06-20-2009 07:59 PM

hmm dam lol...ok thx

venum_us_2002 06-20-2009 07:59 PM

BLAZIN07SS 06-20-2009 08:12 PM

26psi on a 2.8? is that what your boost gauge is reading?

damien 06-20-2009 08:14 PM

you have a foul dp you say?

MarqueDo7BabyBalt 06-20-2009 08:15 PM

nope only my logs..my boost gauge reads 12 or 13 at the highest...but i believe the logs over the gauge..

naw i got my dp fixed now..i just changed it today which is y im tuning again..

damien 06-20-2009 08:15 PM

Must not be reading correctly...

MarqueDo7BabyBalt 06-20-2009 08:16 PM

what? my log? or my gauge?

BLAZIN07SS 06-20-2009 08:18 PM

something is not right. get a mechanical boost/vacuum gauge and tap it on the vacuum line coming off of the intake manifold. true boost reading

MarqueDo7BabyBalt 06-20-2009 08:21 PM

LOL thats what i have...thats y im tripping..maybe i could have a boost leak but thats stupid cuz im overboosting u know

Snakes709 06-20-2009 08:32 PM

what is stock timing? my mechanic did my tune and tried to explain stuff to me but i didnt understand much of it, all i know since i didnt have alot of time we only went up 2* of timing.

MarqueDo7BabyBalt 06-20-2009 08:45 PM

um stock timing is 15 and if he went up 2 then ur at 17...

Frew 06-20-2009 08:52 PM

20 degrees without meth and a 2.8

MarqueDo7BabyBalt 06-20-2009 08:55 PM

hmm ok coo..im going to do 21 and see if it shows knock

383_Stroker 06-20-2009 09:05 PM

26, backing down to 25 by redline, on meth

nicksredline 06-20-2009 09:07 PM

so i have a question.. what if i use meth and my 2.8 what kinda timing should i run?? i mean i will definatly watch for knock ( interseptor) but i want to get a kinda good idea where i should mess around at??( meth mix is just going to me regular washerfluid... 70(water) / 30(meth) i beleave

meth is a wonderful thing. lol. on these cars you really dont want to go past 25 degrees. they dont make anymore power after that, just more heat

nicksredline 06-20-2009 09:15 PM

so i should stop at 25 if anything right? never rilly did any timin on any of my cars... always had it done at a tuning shop... lol now its my turn to eather save money... or mess something up and get a new built motor lol.
