Here is a picture of a similar project if it helps to see it. I believe the part seen here in the picture, and getting a custom length drive shaft to the differential you would be using would be the easy part compared to the rest;
Mounts
Drive shaft tunnel
How to drive the rear wheels? adapting axles
everything else etc. etc. etc. hahaha:

This will always be one of my favorite "right angled" Ecotec cars!
First FWD car in the 7's!
Good luck with the project Rod and thanks for the update!
(hopefully we can add it to the list of Ecotec racer history someday)

The Sunfire he build for his daughter is so clean you might not believe it. I have asked to purchase it several times.
He sells the subframes and suspension pieces or does entire cars.

Update on the RWD conversion
After waiting many weeks for the conversion to start I have chosen to move my car to a different shop.
The original shop is still swamped and I could be waiting even longer before the cutting begins.
I really liked the quality of the original shop which is why I chose to wait so long for them to be able to start. Sadly I can't wait any longer as the timeline, for having my car for any track time as well as SEMA, is quickly evaporating.
My car heads to the new shop today and that shop is already gearing up to start the work. The new shop will be named once they have some pics for me to share.

Because some/most people won't be going for the crazy HP, there will be a less expensive route to go for rwd. Hopefully this can come to be once mine is done.

I suggested to the new shop that they keep the idea open to thinking about how they can produce a kit for others wanting to do a conversion as well.

That's great. I was just meaning that if you weren't going for the high HP, the NHRA certified chassis and custom suspension that the cost would be considerably less. Perhaps even to the point where more people could correct the General's design flaw with our cars.

Latest news on RWD conversion
For those of you who know of Keith Losier - Desired Customs, I am pleased to announce that Keith's new shop is the new shop doing my RWD conversion. Keith recently merged with another company and the end result is http://www.theautodreamgroup.com/
After all the waiting to see the conversion to actually start, I am very encouraged that this part of the project is being done through Keith's company.
On top of that news, Keith's schedule is to have this done this summer.
This will be the first big project for the newly formed company and Keith will also be in control of magazine coverage and SEMA placement. With all of Keith's connections in his business, this is all very good news for this project.

Generally just stronger transmission choices (think "steerable" rear engine dragster)
