victory_red_SS goes RWD
Yes after not keeping this a real good secret I officially announce that I am going RWD. We are turning the engine 90 degrees, using a Tremec T56 paired to a Ford 9" rear end. We are also going the stand alone route for tuning. The details to the stand alone are not yet confirmed but I will know more in the next week or so. Obviously there will be no back seat and the whole car will be tubed. The roll cage will be minimized by the custom work done by Keith Losier and Desired Customs. There will be a custom console and back seat area to hide the tunnel alterations as well as rwd conversion. There are several changes to be made to allow for this conversion and some of those changes will remain hush, hush until the project is unvieled. The car will also be tubbed and I will have some serious tires back there. The d\r's will be a 17" 40 series, 390. The z rated street tires will also be as big as I can buy. I will be buying slicks as well as the d\r's for the track. I discovered that at "street legal nights" I am allowed to run an all out slick in the sport compact class, even with the rwd conversion.
This conversion solves many problems with traction\wheel hop\transmission\drive shafts and I have been on cloud nine since we made this change in the project's direction.

I always thought the Cobalt would have been the best car in 10 years if it came RWD. I have always hoped somone would do it. Good for you! I'm glad to see somone is doing it. It also explains why you were selling those parts. When you said you were taking it in a different direction I didn't think yo u mean this lol!!!!!

The really cool thing about going RWD is that most forum members are almost as excited about this as I am.
As far as the time line, the car should still see the street in April, just closer to the end than the beginning.
As for the know the cost, I know my wife would like to know that as well. I am so far into this now that Iwork to get competitve prices and sponsorships, but I stopped adding it up. I will do this right and not cut a single corner. This is my "Baby"
As for being able to buy "insert car model here" I wanted a Cobalt, I bought a Cobalt and this will always be my "Cobalt". I enjoy other cars but this is me. I have had 40+ cars in my life. This one is the one I want to go all out on.
As for the burn outs at the track, I even ordered 2 extra slicks and 2 extra d\r's knowing that I will likely need them before to long. I really look forward to feeling the ass end start to kick out on me. (and no Matty I don't mean flatulence )

I also hope you don't wipe it out cause I know how you old guys sometimes hit the gas instead of the brake.
