victory_red_SS goes RWD

That's what keeps me going.
First, I too live on the west coast, only a couple of days north I believe.
Second, please no splooge on the paint job.
Third, if the plan involves leaving the stock front suspension and not doing the complete rollcage, you could likely use much of the drivetrain from a Sky/Solstice. The downside is this is still not cheap and you are likely better off to trade for the Sky/Solstice.
The expectation is that even on the low side, you will spend $15K.
PS you really read this whole thread??? WOW
Yup! I read the whole thread! i was playing Forza 2 and it has a RWD 2.0 turbo drivetrain conversion option, so I was tooling around with it and driving it, wishing more and more that my cobalt was RWD, then i decided to use our lovely, yet often missunderstood and overlooked, "search" button! I was completely entheused to find your post at the top of the search list and began reading, So i quite literaly experienced the awsomeness, and the anger that i'm sure all the others felt, just in 2 hours rather than the span of 7 months (sept i think was when the thread started?)
Anyway, I allways thought that our beloved cobalts should have been RWD from the begining, maybe with not so huge tires as youres have.... though your project has just re-instilled that belief in me! and solstice? Sky? dude... it would be worth it to pay out the 15k (since i'm a lil familure w/ motormounts and tanny allignment, i could probably do SOME of the work myself) and keep the insurence cost of having a lil cobalt rather than a convertible sports car >_>. Besides, if i wanted anything to do with the solstice... i would end up wanting to drop the vette motor in it as seen on many Solstice modification websites!

As for the conversion, if you have the skills to do the work then your cost drops greatly.
When I first broached the subject using the Solstice/Sky drivetrain was the first suggestion as it is very similar under the hood. Turning the engine has I have had done presents some problems but leaving it as a transverse mount saves a world of problems.
Had I know I was going to do this before, I would have been tempted to us an LS7.

lol I bet!
I guess for us w/ no monies we will be stuck to our virtual fantacies on Forza 2!
(pic time! gimmie a few minutes)
Game: Forza 2
Track: Laguna Seca
System: Xbox 360
Car: ( i wanna say.. 05?) 2.0 ss/sc w/ 2.0 I4 TC RWD conversion
The things I will never see my balt do but one day, it will look like this at least! (with color matched headlights and tinted tails that is)
P.S. (not thread jacking, just showing what a rwd cblt could be capable of >_>)

your wish is my command!
well the color isn't perfect (i guess the color on my TV is higher than what it actualy is in game >_>) but it looks pretty darn AWSOME!
Victory red Cobalt SS FTW! (also, same specs as before, Laguna Seca, 2.0 TC rwd conversion, forza2, xbox 360, etc etc etc...)

So after having a couple of the shops get together and plan ahead, it turns out that the stock dash will not be going back into the car.
The engine has been moved to far back so once the firewall is in, they will need to make a new dash. They are going to follow a sort of stock look.
I say sort of because we are installing seperate gauges for all functions and not just having idiot lights. There will also be a pyrometer on each cylinder and gauges monitoring crucial parts of the twin turbo system.
On a good note, the door panels will remain in the car as they are not in the way of the rollcage.
I am trying to retain the stock switches in the car as well as the overall Cobalt look.
I have also been shown a AC/heating system that allows me to have my AC restored. The AC was originally scrapped because the front bar of the rollcage ended up right where part of the AC unit used to be.
The car sits still for the next week, as the fabricator has taken a week to get away and sit on a sunny beach with his wife. Before he left we came to an agreement to have his shop, http://www.di-customcars.com/04_3_cu...balt%20RWD.php , come on board as a very significant sponsor of this project.
On a side note, because of the expense of this project, which went much higher than I ever thought, I am going to scale back on my trailer and get rid of my '01 Silverado. Considering the gas prices to run my car, truck and motorhome, I have decided to by a more fuel efficient vehicle. I am going to start dealing to replace the truck with an '08 SS/TC. My wife has even said it was okay. O how I love my wife.
