Want to get 500 hp . . .
I have a 2007 SS/SC Black cobalt with under 13k miles :guns: ... just bought 29 march of 08 and am loving it so far, I was told that I couldnt get 500hp out of that car by a co-worker of mine. I want to get some info from you guys because yall seem to know a ton more about these 4 cylinder engines than i do. I am used to the standard V-8 traditional muscle cars so the inline-4 cyl engines are a whole new deal to me. I am going to start with a cat-back exhaust than go to the exhaust manifold, injectors (not sure wether or not to go higher then a 42# injector which if i remember right is the standard stage 1 kit). after that im going to go for the "7*" mm pully not sure what actuall size it is any more. . . bad memory with this due to being new to a cobalt, but going to also get the shorter belt and i guess what would compose the stage 3 kit but from other companies to cut the money down since money is tight right now. I'm truly hoping to get some useful information from all of the experienced ecotech 2.0 SS guys.
I deal with maintenance so im almost gaurentee'd that if it has directions to it and pictures i can do it with the right tools. but any help and support yall can give would be greatly appreciated to a newly dedicated SS/SC Cobalt owner. thanks in advance, Justin. :usa: |
Fully built motor + large snail + race gas = 500 whp
And welcome to the site! :cssNET: |
go turbo...probably the only way you're going to hit 500.
|
you won't see 500hp with anything that you listed. ou won't even do it with a stock blower. hope you have alot of money because that is what its gonna take to get that. you would have been better off buying a GTO or hell the new G8 for that matter.
|
buy a gm build book
you need some serious schoolin, |
well not exactly what i was looking for, i was actually looking for people who actually know what they are talking about to tell me either how to achieve my goal or to tell me how i can get as close to it as possible, and for the turbo option thanks for giving helpful information, if the future postercs can go into more detail i might actually have a chance at achieving my goal. (the snail analogy did not help at all sorry)
|
so far with teh highest numbers on stock motor has been around 460... and thats with a decent size turbo...
|
Snail = turbo lol
There is no way to make 500 hp with the stock blower. It simply can't push enough air. |
besides the decent sized turbo what else am i looking to get?
|
you need internals, clutch, built tranny, turbo, axels, and lots of money, so good luck
|
... glad some people are actually trying to help now
|
thats the tip of the parts list, of course im guessing you want it reliable
buy a gm build book it gives a detailed parts list and where to get them at |

to run the tvs your going to want to go to a return style fuel setup and replace the pump and all that good stuff....your also going to need to get bigger injectors...79 as big as ive seen em... if you do all of that you should be able to run just about any size pulley you want...then youl need a tune...a damn good one...i recommend hptuners with a wideband....and youl probably want to throw in a great heatexchanger and some methanol injection.....an oh yea dont forget spark plugs.....you could also do a full exhaust-3" with a hiflow cat as for your drivetrain your going to need a stage 3+ clutch at least, as well as maybe cryo treating the gears for reliability purposes i would say that should MAYBE net you 400-450 hp.....im not really sure seeing as the tvs's are fairly new....but thats about the extent of the engine mods...that should keep you busy |
One member on here just recently turbo and tuned his black ss/sc and landed 411 whp. He would be the one to talk to. My guess is what everyone else has said.
Turbo + All internals (pistons, cams, port and polish, etc...) + Nitrous + aggressive tune ....that will get you pretty close. |

then you have no chance...
You also have to ask yourself...are you actually going to USE 500HP or do you want it just to say that you have it?? Figure out what you can actually use and balance that with your build requirements. You may be alot happier with a well rounded 300HP car than a hard to control 500HP money pit. |
liquid nightmare!!!!!1
|
yeah, I am doing a 500 build right now, seeing as I just blew my engine. I am going with a GT35.....everyday cobalt going to mess up everyone lol so, give me another two months I say and it will be back on the road and producing loads of vids! :) oh, and welcome to the site
|
Fully built motor with stock blower + 100 shot = ~480 whp (I hope)
|
You're easily looking at about $7000 plus...
